Supermoto Race on X-games tomorrow

They're having supermoto as part of the X-games this year. I guess it will be on tomorrow evening sometime on ABC. Ben Bostrom and Jeremy Mcgrath will be racing.

From X-games site:

Sunday, 8/8
4pm-6pm ET ABC Moto X SuperMoto Finals, Skateboard Big Air Finals

Re: Supermoto Race on X-games tomorrow

Was just ready to start a new thread on this very subject. Watched the semi's tonight - these guys are totally wacko! I raced MX in the early '70's and thought I was pretty hot chit, catching 6'-8' of air and all. Oh my, where they've taken this sport today! Pastrana, Metzger, Adams, Deegan, et. al., you guys all have my utmost respect. Poor Pastrana skee-rood himself twice tonight, trying to do the twisty 360 (whatever it's called).

edit: after re-reading (well, actually reading) this post I realize we're talking two different events - sorry, I was referring to the Motocross freestyle event.

Re: Supermoto Race on X-games tomorrow

I read that Nicky Hayden turned down the offer to ride in the event, but Aaron Yates, Kurtis Roberts, Ricky Carmichael, and Chad Reed will be riding. Should be a pretty good race. I didn't hear any thing about BBoz, but I don't see a reason for him not be there, it not like he's in a points battle or anything. It would have been cool to see some MotoGP riders contest the event, guess they need their rest during the summer break.

Supermoto is pretty cool. I really like how it brings the roadracers and dirt riders together for one big free-for-all

Yeah, BBoz was the AMA supermoto champ last year I guess. That's cool that all those other guys will be there too.

Which is scarier: riding the dirt section on slicks, or getting on the pavement with dirty tires?

Check out this "article" from the X-Games website: http://expn.go.com/expn/summerx/2004...0808_supermoto
Only mentioned Bostrom being an ex flat-tracker? No mention of him being current AMA Supermoto champ, ex AMA Superbike champ, ex World Superbike racer or current AMA factory Honda Superbike racer?
Only flat-track? Does anyone even give a :caca: about flat-track?

HAHA, no kidding, During the race one of the announcers said he was "in the race of his life"....Yeah, i'm pretty sure one of his 5 world superbike wins was a little more exciting....

Yeah, they barely mentioned him during the pre-race stuff. I thought that was kind of humorous. I was pulling for him the entire time. That was a sweet race and that last pass was awesome (even though we knew it was coming and I'm sure Seel did, too). And yeah, I chuckled about that "race of his life" line, too.

From my POV in my first season of Supermoto, Slicks on Dirt is about the freakiest thing you'll experience. No traction at all, and forget about using the front brake as you saw what happened to anyone how did during the race on the dirt.

Being there today was all the better. We had a few local guys and Gary Trachey from Sttars so I was pulling for him even though he got lapped. Funny because in our series he's untouchable, but when playing with the pro's he's getting lapped. I know I suck really bad now So many boobies to look at it was difficult to pay attention to the racing. On a side note, the MotoX freestyle was sick!!! Adams pulled off a backflip 360. Crazy stuff. I feel bad for Travis though as his crash from qualifiying left him too timid to try the backflip 360 to win it. He was beaten up pretty badly.

X Games X was sweet for $15

Re: Supermoto Race on X-games tomorrow

I thought RC, Yates, and Kurtis would be riding, guess my info was a little old. Very good race, Jeremy rode well in the first couple laps, and got a solid third place. Once I knew Ben was riding, I was certain he was going to win, 100% certain. He rode very well until that slight bobble missing the entrance to the dirt. I think they need more dirt, make it 50/50 so the competion is a little tighter. Because the road racers have an advantage, most of them ride dirt in the off season as training, I don't know any motocross riders who do road courses as training. Very good race though, wish KDub, and Reedy could have made it to the front.

Re: Supermoto Race on X-games tomorrow

Nick, that course was incredible - not a typical supermoto course at all. Most courses in our series are about 80 - 20 street to dirt. Most everyone is a motocross convert, so don't let them fool you. The ability to go fast is a talent whether you are a street guy or a dirt guy. Most courses are run on converted go-cart tracks where it's a motocross type style with aggression. That's the glory of the sport, it doesn't really favor one style over the other. It comes down to the course lay-out and who's got the nads to go fast in the dirt on 17" wheels with slicks.

Didnt see the race, but just been reading about it, Good to see BBoz win! Another rider I would have like to have seen competing would have been Anothony Gobert, he was a former "Mr Motocross" before he switched to road racing and think he'd be really suited to supermotard

Re: Supermoto Race on X-games tomorrow

That was afantastic race. I knew Ben would take the victory just didn't think he'd lay it down and have to come back to do it. It was quite obvious that Ben was the class of the field on the paved sections and didn't do too shabby on the dirt either. It's funny cause Ben and Eric ride dirtbikes all the time. I believe it was last week that Ben rode his Supermoto at an MX track with the slicks on it and smoked everyone at the track. Even the local pro guys got whopped. Ben is a VERY good motard rider and I for one hope to see him race more Supermoto then he did last year.

Re: Supermoto Race on X-games tomorrow

As good as he is at supermoto, some people say it hurt his road racing. Not sure though, cause he did have an ear infection. As long as it doesn't cause him to go slower on the 1000RR, I would love to see him ride more supermoto. Ben is a nut, thats why I love to watch him ride, supermoto or superbike.

He needs to win another race in superbike if he wants a good ride for 2005.
