| Daytona 200........... .....is now officially a Formula Extreme event. That's right, the big race is gonna run on the hopped up 600s. There will still be a Superbike race, but it will be a sprint like all the others.
Discuss amongst the group.
I think it's a good idea as the big bikes are way to fast for the NASCRAP track, and have been tempting fate too much the last few years. |

| Re: Daytona 200........... As long as all the factories bring as much to the table as Honda in FX, it should prove to be a better race than the 1000ccs. The FX bikes do everything the riders want them to do, they don't really want to go 190+ pinned in 6th, too gnarly for the first race of the season. But then again it is kinda depressing the big bikes won't be doing the 200 anymore, I guess they finally decided that superbikes have out grown Daytona. It was going to happen sooner or later, we should just look forward to the FX200, those are some badass bikes (well at least the Hondas). |

| Re: Daytona 200........... I'm guessing this is largely a tire issue. The speeds aren't so different that the 600s will be a lot safer...but the 1000s are just too hard on tires over the 200 race distance. |

Atleast until they are 100% positive that the tires can take the load that Daytona+the 1000cc bikes put on them. |

I guess your going to have to put your 600 in FX. |

As for FX being around in 2006, it most definitely will be. What bikes will comprise it may be the question, as I wouldn't be surprised one bit to see the 600s (or 650s as they most likely will be then) make up the Superbike class. |

If you get in on the last row at Daytona I will be right next to you in Supersport. So when you catch an elbow you know it was not by mistake Room, Room, Room |

| Re: Daytona 200........... I think its a good idea too... Maybe yamaha will trick out a R6 with Ohlins Superbike forks and 16.5" slicks and man up. Kawasaki too!
At the beginning of the year, the 600SS bikes were going faster than the FX bikes everywhere... Now, at least at the last few tracks, the FX bikes are faster than the 600SS and the superstock bikes. Pretty damn cool if you ask me.
A brainerd, I think I saw in RRW that duhammel went like 180 on his 600RR FX bike. Thats just top speed yes, but Wow...
Of course though, with the FX class, the factories will still have the advantage on the pit stops, fueling, etc... |

| Not faster than the Hondas. The Factory SS bikes may have been going faster than the NON factory FX bikes, but that doesn't say all that much. Plus look at the field of riders in SS compared to FX. |

The 600SS bikes lapped all the early season tracks much faster than the FACTORY HONDA FX bikes did...
Only lately have the FX bikes been faster... And when I refer to FX bikes, I refer to the hondas, of course! |

| Re: Daytona 200........... Willi Willi Willi boy, why don't you check out the lap times for your self?
You might want to check out the times. SS were faster in a few sessions, but FX more so than not were faster. Daytona one of the tracks that SS was faster, but thats about it. Plus the FX hondas weren't really pushing that hard since they're main series is superbike, and they had no one to push them unlike SS. |

| Re: Daytona 200........... The grids for FX are smaller the 250gp classes last year. It looks like most of the privateers are just running their SS bikes in FX. Its just a two bike race two 600rr's, but Chandler is making progress on the Duc.

| Re: Daytona 200........... Not true. FX bikes have been slower. I've read several articals on it. According to honda, it's been due to the slicks. A little too much tire for the 600's to spin up. Bike is a bit slower getting out of corners. What I have read. |

You and Willi both need to look it up, Willi said supersport was much faster, but they were only faster a couple of times, and only by a little bit. FX has been faster at least 75% of the time. Get you facts straight guys, plus come on its not like FX is even pushing all that hard, all they need is conservative lap for the front row. They have a bunch of non factory supersport bikes to compete with, not that much of a challenge for the Hondas. |

| Re: Daytona 200........... which is it nick? Your position keeps changing... First it was the Honda FX bikes have always been faster, now they are faster 75% of the time?
Only recently have the FX bikes started to make progress on the track.
Daytona, Disalvo, R6 600SS; 1.52.9
Daytona, B Bostrom, FX bike; 1.53.4
Fontana, B Spies, 600SS, 1.27.6
Fontana, Zemke, FX bike, 1.28.1
Infineon, Tommy Hayden, 600SS; 1.39.1
Infineon, Zemke, FX bike; 1.39.4
I think at barber, they finally caught up. I do think though that zemke did out qualify hayden at infineon, but the lap time on track during the race was slower and I do remember reading in RRW that zemke was running a qualifier to get that time in qualifying...
As I said, its cool to see the R&D on these bikes keep improving. I think the whole FX concept is cool, the only downside is the cost of admission. You gotta have some trick equipment and some deep pockets to be at the top! |
