Last week I was out at PIR during a trackday and came upon an incredible
prototype racebike that is
be developed right here in Portland! A three man team headed by Michael Czysz
has plains to bring
this bike to production--WHOW...
The bike just bristles with innovative enginering ideas.
When I first spotted the bike it had the fairing and gas tank off which clearly
displayed the inline
4 cylinder engine configered like an old Henderson 4 except that it turned out
that there are two
heads mounted at a slight angle (perhaps 10 degrees?) running two seperate
cranks counter clockwise
to each other--which I assume acts as a counter balancer.
The transmission is underneath the cranks and uses a dry clutch mounted at the
front of the engine.
With such a narrow frontal area 2 radiators are being used, one in the front
and a secondary unit in
the coweling behind the seat.
Unfortunatly I didn't have a camera with me in the mourning but blasted back
to the house at lunch
break and returned only to find the bike fully faired and a discussion going on
with a Cycle World
reporter, Michael Czysz and Rich Oliver (AMA multi-250cc GP champ). Rich had
been out on the track
on a Motoczysz modified YZF-R1 that was using the Motoczysz front fork which is
using a shock-spring
unit mounted between the 2 forks.
The photo's that I'm posting were taking on the sly after everyone had left to
watch Rich out on the
track so I apologize for the poor angles: http://home.teleport.com/~se6bq5/motoczysz/
Some other features are a carbon fiber frame and swingarm plus much , much
more...

| Like dual shocks? J/K
It actually looks like a good solution to his packaging problem. A lot better than a hot exhaust header right next to the shock and contorted all over the place like Honda loves to do.
Very sweet looking bike! |

| Re: motoczysz Wow, bike is hawt. Wishing for a more dramatic colour than silver, but from pure looks alone, that is freaking nice. Dual shocks remind me of my cbx 250. Ugh.
Eh, just realized the chain is on the "wrong" side. Buells are belt driven on that side if memory serves. What gives?

| Re: motoczysz Big write up on it in this months Cycle World. Goes over all the neat tech stuff and has better pics then on the website posted.
He is trying to get it ready to race at the MotoGP in the US this year. I don't know if it will be done in time. |

| Re: motoczysz Interesting how the shocks are in line with the frame spars and the counter sprocket seams to be the pivot point for the swing arm. |

| Re: motoczysz Here's a shock, guys - Those aren't shocks, just springs. Get a new CycleWorld and go to page 42 -
The forks are interesting, too, as the above post relates, there's an ohlins shock in the head tube.
The fact that this guy is an architect is a bonus, the schematic presentation is very cool.
The engine in the test mule is a GSXR1000 sawed in half and mounted longitudinally with twin cranks and an elaborate 2 slipper clutch system. This is a narrow bike.
I'm impressed. |

ccwilli, I agree with you about RRW for racing and tech articles (Though CW's Kevin Cameron rocks) but my Jan issue isn't here yet.. |

Last time I saw it was mid October which I'm guessing was early in their track testing phase. So I can't honestly say as they were babying around the track in a manner consistent with a very expensive prototype bike still under development. Sound was incredible and it did seem to have very impressive acceleration though. |
