| Rossi sued after skiing accident Quote from this week's MCN: "Valentino Rossi is facing legal action after a collision with a skier while on a snowboarding holiday...Rossi was snowboarding at the Madonna di Campiglio resort in the Italian Dolomites when he collided with a skier Claudio Berte. Whiel Rossi escaped injury, Berte suffered a broken collarbone. There was more bad news when it emerged that Berte, a 47-year-old Italian Lawyer, is making a claim for loss of earnings. Rossi has placed the matter in the hands of his lawyers...Berte said he was disappointed that Rossi didn't visit him in hospital, but what could he do?..." |

That's retarded. | That is correct to a degree. In our litigous society, the "accepted risk" by buying a ticket doesn't mean jack.
The problem lies within the "skiers code", which practically nobody even knows. Too many people don't watch where they are going, and automatically assume that they are better than anyone else on the hill and thus have right-of-way.
If you are stopped, and someone comes barreling down the mountain and rams you, someone's health insurance has to pick up the tab. Your insurance is not going to want to pay a claim that was the fault of someone else, and thus the lawsuits begin.
I don't know exactly what transpired in the Rossi case, but if he rammed into someone stopped on the slope, he actually is liable for any injuries caused.
Well, he would be here.

| Re: Rossi sued after skiing accident Actually, if my memories of Austria are correct - the liability waver is in the form of a huge yellow sign posted above the ski lift in about 10 languages stating something to the affect of "you will be held responsible for any damage you do to anyone/anythingthing"
Europe tends to be far less sue happy, but the story doesn't really give us all the info, so we don't really know if this guy is treasure hunting or if it is a legit "I don't wanna pay for the medical bills and los tincome this guy caused" type suit.
