"Why" is the question (regarding Honda racing)

I have a question that Honda never did answer. My question is, why didn't Honda or Erion ever race the 954RR? Its a lighter bike then the RC51, with the ability to produce the same (or close too) horse power. Didnt weight and power over come the RC51's? I know that you can get more power from the V-twin powerplant, but wouldnt weight be a deciding factor also?

Can anyone answer this question!?

The 954 engine was the same as the 929, just bored out a bit. The 929's Erion Racing ran put out more power than the 954 anyway... And they could only race those in Forumula Extreme until recently. That's why you saw the RC51 in Superbike, and now you see the 1000RR.

954 was raced in Formula Extreme in 2003. Jake Zemke rode it for Erion Honda that year.

That's the nut of it...Until last year, Superbike was limited to 750cc fours, and 1000cc twins.

I thought that Erion did race a 954-liveried bike in FX.

Yep, 2003 was the first year of the 1000cc i4 bikes in superbike. Mladin dominated that year because honda was still on the RC51 and other than some "flashes in the pan", they weren't all that competitive.
