| NW200 video Short video of the NW200 http://www.u.tv/nw200/asx/liveaction-x_2.asx
Rutter was doing over 200mph in practice on the long straight to Coleraine. Not many places where you can hear race bikes absolutely flat out in top for such a length of time. Sound is absolutely fanatstic.
If you look closely you can see me in the crowd |

| Re: NW200 video I wonder....what would happen if you bounced a bike off the curb at 100+ miles an hour?
Good Lord, we need some of that over here in the States...either that or I need to move. |

| Re: NW200 video It would be cool if there were races like that here in the states. But they would have to change the paint on the roads. |

| Re: NW200 video Well sort of! The bikes are Brit Superbikes, and so are most of the top riders, but the race is the NW200, one of many Irish road races. Towns put on an event, close the roads ane they go racing! Think of it as a mass start IoM TT.
Have a look here. http://www.irishroadracing.co.uk/about_us.htm
Standards of bikes and riders vary enormously. For example you have Rutter on a HRC factory bike. At the other end of the scale you have the French fellow on the Voxan Boxer (you see him getting lapped at 3.00 mins or so by Plater and Rutter just after the arilway bridge). The Voxan is no race bike, a naked V twin roadster, tuned to death, but hopelessly outclassed. No one cares it's all done in the spirit of racing.
The Irish road racing scene is probably unique. Lots of races on what are effectively small back roads, not much more than farm tracks. Terrible surface, no run off or anything else. The locals are mad for it, and I can't think of many places where the race results take pride of place on the sports pages of the small town weekly newspapers.
I love this snippet from the course notes of the Tandragee 100 race (my highlights): Quote: |
14. On the approach to the jumps at Cooleyhill Road, you should be skimming the gable wall of the house on the right hand side. Keep tight to the right-hand hedge as you jump into the dip remembering, that the third last jump is very abrupt and will make the bike jump off on both wheels, remember this caught Joey out years ago.
