Anthony Gobert saga

Anyone else read the news on Soup? I feel bad for the guy. Personally I think he is one of the greatest naturally talented riders ever. After all, I got my "Reaper" screen name from his AGV Q3R Replica back in 1998(which I still have). I hope he stays clean and can someday make it back to the states and race.

He's was all but out of the scene by the time I started to follow racing. I think the first year I followed was his half year w/ Austin Ducati.

Wish the guy the best. Really hate to see anyone squander talent.

Re: Anthony Gobert saga

He used to ride the friggin wheels off a Kawi in WSBK. Even more so than Eric Bostrom. He was just fast. I remember an interview they had on Soup quite a few years ago about how he never looked at the data that his bike would record nor would he look at track maps. He just got out there and hauled ass. If I remember correctly they called him "Good Will Hunting in a helmet".

I don't really care. He chose to be a worthless addict, he can live with it.
Sure, when he was in his prime he was pretty good but so are dozens of others.
He made his bed, he can sleep in it. Time to move on to better racers with a head on their shoulders.

Re: Anthony Gobert saga

Full copy of Sue Gobert's letter below. Please all show some understanding and empathy. Drugs, of any kind can be a ruthless master, heroin being perhaps one of the worst (some say best). If you have had a brother or sister, or a friend or relative lose there will and life to it, then you will know how it feels and the need for encouragement and support for Anthony and especially his family. I for one will remain fiercely loyal to him. I will always be there to support him and hope and pray he may beat this and return to some semblance of a normal life. Best wishes for you and your family Anthony. Should you or your family read this, then know there are still people out there who believe in you and support you. I will be cheering from the fence for you whenever I have the opportunity! Best wishes.

"I am shocked to see all the letters about Anthony all over the web today. What the article in the newspaper did not say is that Anthony completed rehab (at his own instigation) and has now been clean for many, many months. The offences occurred a long time ago but the court hearing was adjourned a couple of times so there has been a big gap between the time of the offences and the court hearing.

This is the reason why he was not jailed but only given such a minor penalty compared to what he should have received because the judge was happy that Anthony had taken steps to turn his life around and is now completely drug free.

Anthony has had a serious drug problem for some time and has been fighting it for years, sometimes winning, sometimes not.

The "TALL POPPY SYNDROME" is alive and well in Australia and there are still many jealous people who just live to cause havoc to some people whom they consider to be better off than themselves.

Anthony has hurt himself more than anything and has tried very hard over the years to overcome his addiction. Some faceless person has sent the newspaper to every journalist worldwide and also to every one who is some way involved in the sport of motor cycle racing. It seems so unfair that he should be treated this way when he has finally overcome his addiction and was starting to get his life back together.

So, I would be grateful if you could print this letter or some form of comment from me to stop all the uninformed discussion.

Thank you,

Sue Gobert"
