| Re: Rossi Calls Alonso's Bluff Really? The 2002 ROC championship team wasn't from the U.S., and it didn't include Jeff Gordon? And he didn't drive for the U.S. team in '05?
Jimmie Johnson and Casey Mears aren't NASCAR drivers? And one or both weren't on the U.S. team in '02, '03 or '04? Robby Gordon isn't a NASCAR driver and hasn't been on the U.S. team ever?

There typically is a motorcycle rider on each team. Colin was on the U.S. team in '02 when we won. Pastrana was last year.
It really used to be very exciting to watch. They had some killer courses laid out. A couple years ago they moved it into some arena in frenchyland. Now it isn't anywhere near as fun to watch. Schumi drove in it a couple years ago - I think the first year they moved it to that crappy track - and one of the challenge cars was a Ferrari 360. He spun it a couple times on the tiny little course. If I remember right they were only using three gears.
It was way better outside with separate road and dirt courses. |

| Re: Rossi Calls Alonso's Bluff sure all those Nascar guys competed but they didn't really win anything except that 1 time.
And Pastrana is kind of an all star anyway since he runs a lot of WRC. And he's pretty damn good at it.

| Re: Rossi Calls Alonso's Bluff Someone has a "convenient" memory:
"Regardless, one can never tell. I recall Mario Andretti getting a chance to ride a 500 GP bike at Laguna in one of his final years of racing... no leathers, just his firesuit and a helmet. He would've qualified in the top half of the field for the race. And he was 50+ years old at the time. (I've got the book around here somewhere with the pic in it...) So just because Schumi was slow on Ducati doesn't mean that holds true of everyone."
Just about every member on Fireblades.org that has turned a wheel at Laguna has lapped 10 seconds faster than Mario's best time (in full leathers due to the FIM rules). He was over a minute 30 plus slower than the last row of that particular event.
These clowns crack me up . . . Mario came in and said he was glad he never tried motorcycle racing because he would need to change his pants every lap . . . |

I'm not a NASCAR fan by any stretch, but the guys have proven over and over that they can drive with the best at those events. Rossi never has.
Rossi is the premier motorcycle racer, but isn't jack in the world of car racing. Alonso isn't the premier car racer, and wouldn't do jack in the world of motorcycle racing. |

He never tried for any fast laps or to make any point, and he was still within ~25% of Rossi's race times. |

| Re: Rossi Calls Alonso's Bluff Yes, within 25% just fukkin' around. Never ridden a MotoGP bike, just hopped on and pissed around.
Had he actually tried and been doing it with an option of a possible career shift he could have sliced that percentage in half within a day or two. Similar to the percentage Rossi is off his F1 times.

Nicky got him in the US, but we all know Rossi is a learn one year / win on 2nd year kinda guy. The USGP should be quite interesting this year.
I'm not as big a fan of Rossi as I was when he rode a Honda, and I would love to see Nicky do well, for that matter I'm really rooting for KRJR on the Honda-powered Roberts team. But I have to admit that he is the best at what he does, moreso than anyone in any other sport. I can't think of anyone who has achieved his level of domination. And he switched manufacturers to remove all doubt about his talent. |
