New format for Superbike Shootout

Did anyone else catch this in Soup last week?

Basically going to a motorcross style format with heat races and LCQ's. I kinda like the idea of a last place.

Thoughts???

I'll reserve judgment until I see the results...but just thinking quickly, I think I like it.

Hmmm. Could be really good if the championship is still up for grabs at that point. Otherwise, if mladin has already clinched, he may not make a race of it. Or anyone that could possibly see this as a potential risky weekend...

I'm sure the clutch and tire distributers will love it.

I'm interested in seeing how it turns out as well, but it does SOUND cool.

I really like this idea, but I'm thinking that we're going to see a lot of hero's during those five lap sprints. I agree with you ccwillie that if there isn't a points battle for any of the top three spots, the bigger names might sit it out and not risk the potential injuries from people trying too hard for five laps.

On another note... I would love to watch the race for the back markers. That's what racing should be, people of the same ability and equipment scrapping it out. Same goes for those who make it to the actual main event, but I would like to see the little guys have their time. I doubt SPEED would air it though.

hmmmmm Sounds like someone at Mid Ohio found a copy of the old Southern California Speedway Association Rulebook. It's almost a direct copy of their weekly format . . .
