All in all he did O.K. without being able to use his brakes 100%. I'm thinking nobody would've even had a chance if he could've gone into some of those turns at 100%. | Someone asked why he fell off the pace at the end. I'm assuming from the above statement that his inconsistant brakes could've caused him to wear out his tires faster.

| Re: SPOILER: 2006 Istanbul Results Don't get me wrong... I'm a huge Hayden fan. In fact I would love to see him win a championship. But.... does it seem like he kinda always has an excuse too. Maybe these guys are just so competitive that it's hard to admit they just got beat. I'm not saying he didn't have a problem with the brakes, but if that's the case... shame on them. Hundreds of hours of preparation for a race, tons of computer analysis, hundreds of thousands of dollars of reseach, and some a$$ screws up the whole thing with a tire warmer malfunction. Sorry, rant is over. |

COLIN EDWARDS (9th; + 22.847)
"We didn't get it done at all this weekend and we need to sit down and work out why. It was always going to be a tough race today but I just didn't have the feeling or confidence with the bike to go out and battle with the guys we should be running with, which is the front group. We've got a test tomorrow and I'm keen to get out there and get as many laps in as possible. It's hard to overcome problems like the ones we're experiencing now because you don't get enough time during a Grand Prix weekend, so we'll get as much data together as we can before China. We simply have to come up with something for there because this situation can't go on for any longer."
| Couldn't agree more, Colon. |

+1 to Crash.. Colon should retire. Time to get more young blood in the group. |

Sorry, rant is over. | I think that of all the folks who race, Hayden is the first to admit that "He" didn't get it done. He never says the bike was a pile and that he couldn't manage it. He's always put the blame on something that he had control of. Not once since his entrance to motogp has he leveled the blame on the bike or his team. This is the first incident that he says he couldn't do what he wanted because of a problem that someone else caused.
He may have in passing, but not in print. He knows that the HRC bosses don't take too well to criticism.

| Re: SPOILER: 2006 Istanbul Results Yeah, Nicky is a practiced PR guy, he knows better than to blame mother Honda, and often accepts the ultimate responsibility.
It doesn't make for real exciting copy but it's laudable. |

Probably both. You do have to have a bit more humility than many of these guys to listen to the PR guys telling you what to do though. |

| Re: SPOILER: 2006 Istanbul Results Nicky really is a nice, quiet and humble guy in person. Interesting when you meet and talk with him, you'd never know he was such a high paid racer-type (unless you did know).
He was raised on a farm by a bit of a hard-assed dad in America's heartland. Typically those that grow up that way have a fairly level head, and know how to treat authority.
I'm sure it's a bit of both. Nicky knows where his checks come from and has seen what happens to those that ****-talk Honda. He also knows that when all is said and done HE has to ride his best, and his words and actions typically reflect that. |

| Re: SPOILER: 2006 Istanbul Results I talked to his brother for a while in the pits at Fontana when he came in to our garage looking for gas for his new scooter. (He didn't realize he needed premixed fuel. ) Super nice guy though.
But, that hard assed Dad is a car dealership owner too, so I don't fully buy into the country boy hick thing...these kids come from privilege.
I agree that it's both. |

| Re: SPOILER: 2006 Istanbul Results Hmm... I thought it was a used lot, but I could be mistaken. I was also under the impression that when the kids started out racing that mom and pop pretty much mortgaged themselves to the brink to get them where they are.
But that in and of itself is priviledge in a way.
Either way, nice guys. |

Either way, nice guys. | It is a used car lot. One of the guys here at work is originally from Kentucky and his brother-in-law knows the Haydens (I know, I know, where does Kevin Bacon fit in?). They saw Earl and all the boys around the holidays at some restaurant and said they were all very respectful and "good kids". I'm not sure they grew up dirt poor, but it's not a DiSalvo silver spoon situation either. From what I've heard, Earl is almost a professional gambler... Quote: |

| Re: SPOILER: 2006 Istanbul Results I was reading today about Casey Stoner's family basically selling up everything in Australia and moving to Spain, living in a caravan, to give the boy a chance. I'm sure pretty well all racers have made huge sacrifices to get into the sport. Some just run out of money and give up.
Couple of exceptions though Sete Gibbering being one. Mike Hailwood being another. Both from very wealthy backgrounds. |
