| Re: Rossi's Tire pic Interesting pic. They were pretty careful about keeping the cameras from getting a shot of the tire when Rossi pulled into the garage.

If he were riding in Detroit I would guess a Pothole. |

| Re: Rossi's Tire pic First of all, I think the tire "secrecy" is ridiculous. I know, I know, lots of money at stake, but to hurry into the garage so no one can see the tire just seems silly. No pictures, get out, get out! Hide the bike!
Stuff happens to all manufactures, you don't think the other teams noticed that Rossi had to leave the race, tire related? I'm surprised the tire manufacture didn't cut the satellite feed so no one would see their tire.
Anyway, so Rossi comes in the first time and believes it's the rear causing all the problems. Nearly his whole crew replace the rear and don't even look the bike over? Watching the video, they were sending him back out after replacing the rear (which the reporter stated no visual problems), and finally one of the crew standing in the background notices the huge chunk missing and screams at everyone trying to get Rossi's attention. So, if your rider comes out of a race complaining about severe handling issues, more than likely tire issues, you don't check the front even after replacing the rear which appears normal?
That missing chunk was huge!
Thanks for the posting the picture, I was curious how bad it was. |

There's only (2) tires to look at! Hindsight?
Edit: Even the reporter on the scene was questioning sending Rossi back out because he saw nothing wrong with the rear tire. |

| Re: Rossi's Tire pic The video of Rossi coming in for the rear tire clearly shows the chunked front. There was even someone that tried to wave him off at the last second to no avail. But it was Rossi that motioned for the rear tire. http://www.zippyvideos.com/359986620...6/rossi_china/ |

| Re: Rossi's Tire pic Only the second time I can remember Rossi having a major tire issue. I can't remember the race, but I think it was Burno when he was still with Repsol and his rear delamenated. Nothing like Nakano's rear from last year that sent him flying at 200mph but still it was pretty severe. |

I wonder if the fender took out the tire, or the tire took out the fender?
You can see pieces of it still bolted to the fork... |

What caused it? I would say the front end of that bike jackhammering in the corners up and down. The front end is chatter city until Yamama fixes it. |

From there, the mechanic saw it and tried to stop Vale. That's pretty observant IMO. However, unsuccessfull.
Not sure how they missed the missing front fender though. But I don't pretend to understand the level of pressure and what effects it has on one's decision making ability. I do know that Toshi Amino, the Vice-President (retired) of Honda of America (the man responsible for bringing Honda motorcycles to this country) told my Marketing class that Honda requires anyone who is to be president of the company to have been a racing manager, as it forces them to make decisions quickly.
Was this a case of slow/poor decision making? I guess one could argue that. I'm not a big enough of an asshole to presume. IMO, it is what it is.

| Re: Rossi's Tire pic The damage seems to be an "impact seperation" where the plies of the tire seperate and then stretch due to the air pressure in the tire and form the bubble. You see them on cars that hit curbs really hard or sometimes it is a manufacturer defect (personal opinion, work at a tire shop so the deny that it could be product rather than driver. Most often it is the driver...) |
