The number 1 plate doesn't exclusive belong to any rider, but the number 46 belongs to Valentino and the number 69 belongs to Nicky. Keep using your number after winning the championship and all the manufacturer promotion, promotes you. Use number 1 and the manufacturer promotes their number 1 plate, not the rider. When Valentino moved from Honda to Yamaha, the championship moving from Honda to Yamaha was inextricably intertwined with Valentino moving from one manufacturer to the other. The tacit message is Valentino is the reason for the championship. | Just a thought, but isn't Suzuki promoting all their winning riders, races, titles and models on their recent commercials?

Mat Mladin has owned and used the #1 AMA superbike for a few years. If he loses to Ben Spies this year and Ben uses the #1 plate, Suzuki gets to continue advertising the #1 plate, and 10 years from now well be thinking Suzuki had the #1 plate and wondering whether it was Mat or Ben who had it.
Another way to get the point is to think about it the opposite way, if Ben wins the championship, what number will Mat use?
Lastly, if you look at Suzuki's recent advertising, you see a rider on their current bike with the #34. Who do you think that is? |

| Re: If Hayden Wins this Season Will he use #1 After being snubbed by Rossi wanting to continue running his number, I'd bet there is a clause in Nicky's contract stating he will run the #1 if it is won. There may even be a monetary bonus for it as well.
If he wins, I have no doubt that he will use the #1. Repsol Honda will be more or less forced to re-up his contract then as well. |

| Re: If Hayden Wins this Season Will he use #1 The whole team works hard to get that #1. When Rossi kept his #46 it was kind of cool and different. If someone else does it, it'll be lame.

So if Rossi gets fourth, and with no reason to believe that Hayden will not win Seca, that leaves Rossi 42 or more points behind Hayden with only 6 races left. Assuming Rossi wins the rest (Not a given), with hayden coming in second or third (something very possible once the number crunchers at HRC realise the score and hand out team orders to the little fun killer), he still has a giant mountain to climb. Hayden only needs to be consistant to win the tital at this point. | Quote:

I highly doubt there will be team orders against the bot unless he tosses it and is out of the running and even then Rossi will take the title. | Quote:
