Re: Rossi rides the 800cc Yamaha at Brno!

Ok trivia question just because I can't remember: What is the minimum weight requirement for the GP bikes?

I was in a conversation today where this came up and I totally drew a blank.

Honda won't be using a 5 cylinder.

I have not heard anything that says they will not, just speculation.

Re: Rossi rides the 800cc Yamaha at Brno!

Honda built the 5 cylinder as it made the most sense according to the rulebook. No other real reason.
Now that the 5 makes no sense whatsoever, Honda will again be making what they feel is the best bike according to the available rules. That would most likely be a 3.

Zactly. Up until now, 4 and 5 cylinders had the same minimum weight.

edit: most of the rumors are saying 3 cylinders for the 800 Honda. Which, would seem to make pretty good sense based on the 16.6lb weight advantage over the 4 bangers.

Imagine flyweight Pedrosa and Stona on a bike with a 16.6lb weight advantage... that'll put them about 45 pounds under Rossi and his Yammy. (though possibly at a slight horsepower disadvantage)

edit edit: more brainstorming here... Pedrosa could be 6.4 horse down on Rossi and still have equivalent accelleration. (but better handling, braking and tire wear)

A V3 would have a very tiny crankshaft and make for a super-compact 309 lb bike.

Re: Rossi rides the 800cc Yamaha at Brno!

I would love to see a screaming V3 as their GP bike and an ultra-exclusive, only sell 50 of them in the U.S. for whatever they want because they'll get it, kiss my ass everyone else, RVF1000 V4 superbike that will make Miggy squeal with joy and make Mladin say, "Oh ****, not again".
Sadly, that last part doesn't have much chance of happening.

Imagine flyweight Pedrosa and Stona on a bike with a 36.5lb weight advantage... that'll put them about 90 pounds under Rossi and his Yammy. (though possibly at a slight horsepower disadvantage)

2007 specs:

3Cylinder - 140.5Kg
4Cylinder - 148Kg

7.5 KG*2.2 lbs=16.5 lbs, genius.

Pedrosa will be dehydrating by then, morphing to sundried soybean pods, but he'll still weigh about 105. Rossi's in the 140's?

That's not 90 lbs by any means.

Oops I took the converted pound difference and converted it into pounds again by an extra power.

Nevermind.
