Slow down there Johnny Cochrane. You aren't being very objective. There are plenty of racing fans "inside" the US that aren't diehard NH fans. There are also some American racers that are wildly popular outside the US.

Nice a guy (and huge talent) as Nicky is, he's become a pretty controversial racer. I'd argue that it has nothing to do with his nationality.

There is absolutely nothing controversial about Nicky. Not one thing.

He doesn't bash Honda, he doesn't bash other riders, he hasn't flunked a drug test, missed a test, slept in through practice...this guy is a "workingman" racer.

as opposed the some of the more popular past members of the paddock like Wayne Gardner who couldn't go fast without a hangover . . .

hes controversial for one cause he demonstrated some serious whinging about the rossi take over. and he said about it right after the race, which incidentally was the first time ild heard him speak, 'i saw rossi take on the yellow flag so i just held back from that point on.' that to me, as other ppl have pointed out, is not the outlook of a champion. and not the kind of racer i hold in admiration.

If you think that's whiny, I don't think you've been around many racers right when they get off their bike or out of their car...seeing a thrown helmet with streams of obscenities and threats is nothing unusual.

He has on multiple occasions whined about on and off track riding and behavior.

Having said that, the championship is Hayden's and Honda's to lose. If HRC can't get the clutch working better, he'll lose positions at the start and speed entering corners. Then it will be a matter of damage control, and trying to stay as close as possible to the Yamaha.

Still, that says nothing of why Hayden deserves the title FAR more than Rossi. IMHO Rossi deserves it more for the fight he's had to put up to get within striking distance, with more wins etc after having multiple DNFs from mechanicals. But hey, opinions are like assholes, everyone has one.
