| Re: SPOILER Estoril MotoGP I guess you never know what a teams goals and objectives are, but it's hard to imagine a championship chase that was more of an abject failure...
If you look at resources vs. results, the Repsol effort in 2006 has been a complete disaster...makes you really wonder what their true objectives might have been...
As a subscribing believer in the law of unintended consequences, I have to wonder if some of Pedrosa's marketability was lost today. Probably too much to wish for, but interesting to think about nonetheless...

| Re: SPOILER Estoril MotoGP I'm trying to think of another time when motorsports team mates collided in a way that affected the overall championship.
In Formula One, of course, there was the feud between Ayerton Senna and Alain Prost, summarized below. They were team mates in 89, but knew they were not to be re united in 90. Quote:
1989 Japanese Grand Prix, Suzuka - Alain Prost hits Ayrton Senna to win the World Championship
Relations between Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna had broken down much earlier in 1989. Prost accused Senna of reneging on an agreement in the San Marino Grand Prix, and with Prost off to Ferrari for 1990 the gloves were well and truly off.
Prost was sick of what he perceived as Senna’s intimidatory tactics and vowed not to be a soft touch when they raced. He went considerably futher than that, as it happened. The Frenchman led lap after lap of the Japanese Grand Prix, but Senna began to close late in the race. On lap 46, Senna dived down the inside of Prost at the chicane, Prost seized his opportunity and turned in on Senna, forcing a collision.
Prost knew that, with Senna out, he would be champion. Senna had other ideas, disentangled his car and raced on to win. But his efforts were in vain - the stewards disqualified him for cutting the chicane as he rejoined the circuit (a minor infringement which, twelve months later, he wouldn’t have been punished for) and Prost was champion. Senna vowed revenge which came exactly one year later.
1990 Japanese Grand Prix, Suzuka - Ayrton Senna hits Alain Prost to win the World Championship
The sequel to the 1989 encounter, and to many there more shocking of the two because of the speed at which Ayrton Senna took Alain Prost out of the race. Without a moment’s hesitation or regard for the safety of Prost, himself or any of the other drivers, Senna rammed Prost off at the first corner of the 1990 Japanese Grand Prix to win the championship. It was outrageous, but there was nothing the FIA or its incandescent President Jean-Marie Balestre could do to punish him.
Senna's radical move was inspired by his dormant fury at what had happened in 1989, and fuelled still further by his outrage at having won pole position for the race, but not being allowed to exercise what had been the fastest driver’s right to choose which side of the grid he started from.
| I can't think of an analogous event in motorcycle racing, maybe Abtech can.
In the above cases, the collision guaranteed the title. In this case, it guarantees the title of "Sir ****wit" to Pedrosa. |

It seems as if Pedrosa just made a really really really bad mistake and took his teammate out.

| Re: SPOILER Estoril MotoGP Death to Pedrosa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't even discuss this right now. I stopped watching the race after Podbot ruined Nicky's season and will have to watch the re-broadcast on Tuesday to see the rest.

Even in the print ad he did for Shoei, he looks like someone just pissed in his Cheerios.
I guess because he's a Spaniard with incredible riding skills, he has had some sort of marketing basis for Repsol and others, but I'm sure even they would love to see him express some actual human qualities - even if it's being a jerk like Biaggi.
It may be that in certain markets, the act of torpedoing an American could actually be seen as some sort of act of valor.
I was actually starting, begrudgingly, to feel a bit of respect for the little schmuck with the way he expressed appreciation for the American fans at Laguna, and then the way he battled back from that horrible knee injury at Sepang, but now he moves back into "worthless punkass" status, as far as I'm concerned. |

| Re: SPOILER Estoril MotoGP Everything being posted says that "Nicky's season is over", "ruined", "Pedrosa took the championship from him". The guy in front of Nicky in the standings suffered more adversity this season. There is still a race left. If Nicky can win it and Rossi takes second and the title we can b!tch. There is still a championship to win and if Nicky can't win in 2 weeks than he doesn't deserve to be champ. He has a job to do.
When all the talk of "it's who has the most points, that's all that matters" was going on was it only because Nicky was ahead? Pedrosa has won as many times as Nicky this year but crashed a few times, the last crash was incredibly stupid and collected Hayden. He is a great young rider and he was not out of the championship, wants to go head to head against Rossi, and no one wants to finish behind their teammate (unless they have done that their entire MotoGP career and were at risk of losing their job). I'm a fan of Nicky and really hope to see him prove he is championship material by going out and winning when he has to. Will the Kentucky Kid be the Kentucky Man next week? |

| Re: SPOILER Estoril MotoGP just some thoughts on possible mentality of pedrosa before his clear late braking bone head move.
he was right behind rossi when edwards broke late, cut in front of him, then blocked him through a section where pedrosa couldnt do anything but back off. he got bullied into third. then hayden, despite what everyone sais here, did the same thing. dirty move, blocked him and forced pedrosa back. so he goes from battling rossi for 1st, clearly the only one who was competitive at that stage, as rossi and pedrosa were pulling away, to 4th. he must have been pretty pssed off. so he tried to overtake hayden by cutting on the inside cause hayden went on the outside the lap before. he fcked up. silly mistake but that is the way i saw it play out. the whole thing of team mates blocking other riders is fcking bull sht. its fcked up in formula1 and its fcked up in motogp. thats my 2c. bad luck to hayden, felt his pain afterwards. will see how he deals with it at valencia |

| Re: SPOILER Estoril MotoGP Rossi and Pedrosa pulling away?
Pedrosa the only one competitive?
It was only 6 laps in, and they were all right there. If Pedrosa was pulling away he wouldn't have been passed cleanly by both Edwards and Hayden.
Hayden was far better on race tires during practice than Pedrosa and would have been right there with Rossi all race. |
