BDA116 : Honda's superbike platform next year will be a bone stock, off the showroom floor R1 with Honda stickers on it, 'cause it's just so d@mn perfect.
| Putting different stickers on another brand's product? That's not likely to happen.
*cough* Jardine *cough*
*cough* Joe Rocket *cough*

Holeshot : 999 built on the 998R engine.
| Actually, the 998R engine is the 104mm testa... So technically speaking, the 999 is based on the 996R engine, the 100mm bore testa.
The 999R has the same engine config. as the 998R.
Of course, there are massive differences in spec between the 999F03, the 998F02, the 998RS, etc, etc... |

luvtolean : Quote (ccwilli3 @ Sep. 26 2003, 2:10pm)*Keep in mind that duc, with the 104mm bore revs WAY high! *LIke 13500 or 14000 rpm or something, its SPINS high! *
| Jeez, I guess. *That gives a stroke around 59mm.
Holy crap indeed, man that is an over square motor, I never realized it was that much. |

Ludington told him they don't yet know what the team is going to do, race the 51 again to take advantage of the rules, or the new 1000. Ludington said if the rules stay (they don't change them) then the 51 would have the advantage and they'd stay on it, and race the 1000RR in the new class next year. |

| I'm with booth on the restrictor crap. Racing should be run what ya brung. If the Ducs have problems with that then hit the drawing board to come up with something competitive.
Honda has the money to run both the '51 and the new 1000. Why don't they. So what if one beats the other. Do they think they'll lose face if the '51 beats that 1000? So what. Development time. The '51 has more of it and if they run both next next then the following year they can drop the 1000. It will just give them another year of development for that 1000. |

| Re: What will honda use as a superbike next year? I see Honda running the RC in Superbike and getting the CBR developed in Superstock first. I think eventually the CBR will replace the RC in Superbike, but it takes time to work the bugs out with a brand-new bike. I'll sure miss the sound of that big twin though...

Pretty sure Nicky's 'Joe Rocket' boots are actually Daytonas with JR badging.

| Damn...let it go already. Just 'cause you're a dirty hippie who doesn't like the look of the new R1, that doesn't give you the right to keep on making fun of it. |

It's too much fun, man. I guess Bush never should have made me do it in the first place. |

ccwilli3 : don't forget too, the desmo valves are forced shut... *No chance of float... *
All they have to do is keep the engine together at those speeds and if its carrying all of that torque to that high rpm, its gonna be strong! *They might need VERY frequent rebuilds, but damn are they strong...
| If it's forced shut, why do they still use valve springs? I think the desmo system was really only viable up to about 10.5K, after that the system has a harmonic problem and they added the springs 'just to make sure' . . . |
