LONDON, Feb 20 (Reuters) - Injured American MotoGP rider John Hopkins is expected to sit out the final pre-season test in Jerez this weekend after crashing heavily in Qatar, his Suzuki team said on Tuesday.
Teams have a three-day official test scheduled in southern Spain from Friday.
"John Hopkins is unlikely to be able to ride this weekend due to the injuries he sustained after his high-speed crash at Qatar," Suzuki said on their Web site (
Rizla SUZUKI MotoGP).
The team said the 23-year-old had fractured a toe in his right foot and suffered some damage to his hands as well as extensive bruising from the 190kph fall last Thursday.
He is expected to be fit in time for the season-opener in Qatar on March 10.
Suzuki said Japanese test rider Kousuke Akiyoshi will take part in the test with Australian Chris Vermeulen. Akiyoshi will also race as a wild card in the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez on March 25.
