Wayne Gardner on MotoGP & Rider Aids

Some interesting points on MotoGP raised by the former world 500cc champ Wayne Gardner.

"I was watching the throttle / brake position simulators and my jaw practacally hit the floor! They just go from closed throttle, open it a little and then go wham! Full noise! If you did that on a 500 you'd need a parachute to land on the infield!

The rider aids such as traction control have really taken that excitement out of watching wet races and to some extent taken the the talent away, a bit like F1 racing. I think the safety factor is a good thing but I'd hate to see a new generation of riders who are dependant on rider aids."

I'm not sure how accurate he is. I mean the yeah the 500s were suppose to be absolute beasts capable of sending you into a low orbit in an instant. but the newer 990/800s produce so much more power that they'd probably due the same thing only you'd get to know the sun on a more personal level if the electronic controls aren't there.

Re: Wayne Gardner on MotoGP & Rider Aids

And if the wet races dont need as much talent, how come there are still guys who do better in the wet eg Vermulen.

Yes I can see that these aids might make the bikes easier to ride, but its not like they are that easy that I could give the guys a run for their money.
If it means less high sides then its a good thing.

Re: Wayne Gardner on MotoGP & Rider Aids

Wayne Gardner is a big sheila that hasnt recovered from the fact that the world doesnt still revolve around him This is just another attempt to remind people how "great" he used to be. Pity because he was a great rider but cant cope with time moving on. All he is getting at is they were "real" riders in his day and now its easy and anyone can do it. Its why he doesnt like Doohan.Doohan went bigger and better than him. Mick Doohan thinks he is a joke and he isnt far wrong

Here endeth the rant
