Aprillia and MV in MotoGP

Anyone know why Aprilia pulled out of MotoGP a few seasons back and if they have any plans to return?

Also, what about MV Agusta, anyone think they'll ever field anything in MotoGP anytime soon?

Re: Aprillia and MV in MotoGP

I think the increased cost of the four stroke technology pushed them out. It was cheaper to build and race competetive 2 strokes.

Re: Aprillia and MV in MotoGP

Seeing MV Agusta struggling in AMA, I think they are pretty far from being competitively involved in top level road racing anytime soon.

Re: Aprillia and MV in MotoGP

BMW is testing a motorcycle that they might bring to racing against the 4-strokes. I remember reading about it, I will look for the story.

Re: Aprillia and MV in MotoGP

The MV's actually finished in top ten in Race 1 this weekend in AMA SBK. I think either 5th and 6th or 6th and 7th. May be their best finish this year so far.

Re: Aprillia and MV in MotoGP

They both would need a good development rider. Those don’t come cheap and they would also want to win a championship. Aprilia tried and failed, so they will not attract top talent. They could attract someone looking to get to MotoGP though. MV, they have their hands full in one race series.
