THE PRESIDENT OF THE HONDA: 'VALENTINE LEAVES THE HONDA'

PHILLIP Island - «Valentine Rossi has already signed for another team and we will replace him/it to us with an anonymous pilot Japanese. We will still win and we will show that our motorbike doesn't need a strong pilot to win. Because the motorbike is stronger than the pilot». If there were still some doubts on the goodbye of Valentine Rossi to the Honda, here they are, rather near, even the number one. You/he/she has been in fact Takeo Fukui, president and managing director of the Group, to confirm him/it during a supper held him to Tokyo on the occasion of the Saloon of the auto.

Questioned on the matter, Fukui, 58 years of which 34 mistakes in firm, reigning from July, sixth president of the colossus founded in 1948 by Soichiro Honda, has ratified not only the hypothesis that is already in the air («Red will go») but you/he/she has seasoned the everything with a beautiful dose of poison: to replace him/it is not need of one of the top-riders that you/they are in attended, with the numbers in hand as to the supermarket, to climb on the supermoto of the phenomenon, neither Checa, neither Barros, neither above all Max Biaggi, the Great Enemy of Valentine, the man that would have been able to draw greater advantages from the ribaltone. «To the place of Red a Japanese» for more anonymous. A beautiful way to say that the individual goes but the firm stays. All very implacable, all very Japanese.

The answer very attended from Tokyo on the contractual contropropostes introduced from Red in Malesia it will be only a formality. The by you/he/she is traced and without exit: Red he/she wants to go and the Honda won't make a footstep in more to hold back him/it after all, «this is the contract best possible» you/they had told Tokyo before giving to the last draft it is Worth. And so it will be. It prevails therefore the Japanese line. That Fukui and of Suguru Kanazawa. The two has not picked up the invitations of Honda Europa (worried about the possible collapse of image and market) and of Charles Fiorani team manager of Hrc, man so in tuning with Red that (word of the champion) «pits for him I would already have signed».

The philosophical differences between Honda and Red have become insurmountable: too much bulky the personality of the Doctor for the spirit collettivistico of the firm nipponica, too much rigorous the Japanese style for the desire to become its champion of the world. The troubles were glimpse two years ago already on the occasion of the first contractual renovation. They are now exploded when not even the triumphs are more served from adhesive and the extreme applications of Valentine («neither techniques neither of money») I/you/they have been done on purpose perhaps for closing the marriage after four years of victories and incomprehensions.

To this point they play you the words of Fiorani, the man that has looked for of ricucire the relationships between the pentacampione of the world and the Honda more than all, the manager that correct yesterday you/he/she has tried to confirm: «Every day can be that good to find an accord and a solution that you satisfy both Valentine and the Honda, but even if you/he/she had to have found it would be preferable to give the alone ufficialitą at the end of the season. Then we will give the announcement of the decision of Valentine at the end of the World one. I believe that I/you/he/she am the best solution for both the parts». Sinned that Fiorani has been abundantly climbed over more aloft by someone of him. The president in person.

It stays to understand for the one that Red you/he/she has signed. This Fukui has not told him, and we can grab on to the usual signs. The first one, the strongest, brings to the Yamaha. The House of Iwata would have ready a packet made of 9 million of European and a heavy technical renewal and of men to relaunch his/her own mark in crisis and to try to recover himself/herself/themselves a title that it has missed since 1992. Both however the manager of Red, Gibo Badioli, in Malesia («we have two alternatives») that Valentine («me in Dukedoms? It's possible») they hold opened the road that brings Panigale to Suburb.

The Dukedoms, in truth, he/she doesn't suffer agonies for two well clear motives. Primo: it is well positioned on the market and it doesn't require to all costs of a strong testimonial as Red. According to: his/her pilots, Capirossi and Bayliss, that are doing very well in the season of debut, they are armored from the contract and there is no motive to replace them, even if with the reigning champion. Who pushes however it is the Philip Morris disturbed by the fact how Red, once loosened the usual reserve on the sponsor tobacconist, decides to tie himself/herself/themselves to Gauloises (partner of Yamaha), rather than to the Marlboro.

The answer also to this question you/he/she could reach Valencia, where on November 2 the last Gran prize of the season will develop him. But a thing stays certain: the binomial winner is by now loosened, the number 46 of the doctor Red you/he/she will end on another cupolino, the challenge Honda-Valentine starts. «The day that Red it will go - it said ago a few months Suguru Kanazawa - we will start to try everything to beat him/it». That day has arrived. And there is to swear how Red doesn't see the time that the next season starts.

Possible it/he may be of entirety that you/he/she Valentine more demands tried to be met by. Rather you/she/he Honda have possibly demands to deny, causing he/it Valentine to reconsider back to coming Honda. You/she/he Honda seeing maybe writing of wall he/it Valentine to leave, deciding not the contract to remake.

In other words, it could be that the Rossi situation played out much like the McGrath MX situation.
McGrath demanded more control over the team and the sponsors, along with more freedoms. At the time, he was the dominant force and thought he could win on any bike at any time. After Honda smacked him down, he tried to come back agreeing to abide by all their terms. They said forget it, go win on any other bike. The rest is history.
Is this what happened with Rossi? Who knows, but it is very possible and is not without precedent.

Not easy it is to type in manner of this accord.

I would agree that this is very reminisant (sp) of the McGrath situation. When you ride for Honda on the A bikes, they own you. They control your marketing, they control the promotional appreances, and they don't allow the rider the freedom to do what they want. Rossi may have stepped in it, but you can rest assure he'll be on top again. Champions find a way.

I've read legal documents that were even more confusing. I guess just skip every other word, add a little guessing, and the words just pop out.

I can't imagine that would be an issue. I still think if Val is leaving Honda, why doesn't he go to a contender like Ducati?

Because Eddie Lawson went from the best bike to posibly the worst handeling machine made and won the title. Its to prove that you are that good. You can overcome the bike and just be a great rider. It's a test for Rossi.

I personally still feel that he will sign for honda. This is all part of the Rossi Road Show and we wouldn't be as interested in it if he had signed last month.

I don't think it's probably an issue this time because they already went over that in his last contract.
