Re: Matt Mladin

OK, been an MX racing fan most all of my life, but I have become a road racing addict over the last couple of years. Just watched the last several laps of the race televised today on Speed. Still don't know WSB from AMA from ? races, but for Mladin to come back today to win the race, after the trauma of an exploding tire at high speed yesterday seems pretty significant. Is this our '03 champion? What do you think (remember, I'm clueless here).

Re: Matt Mladin

pretty much...

Unless it rains heavily at every race for the rest of the year, except for PPIR, I fully expect him to win the rest of them...

Also, rumor is, mladin will run the WSBK race again this year, will be interesting to see how a 'restricted' GIX will fare against the ducs of WSBK...

IMO, he prolly is. And that just burns me up. I'll give credit where it's due, and he is one of the best.

Is it just me, or do most of the Suzuki guys have pretty bad attitudes?

Yeah, I noticed in the post-race interview that he sorta exuded 'cockiness'.

Re: Matt Mladin

Never met Mladin, so I can't speak for him, but...While at Mid-Ohio last year, Aaron Yates was sitting alone in his paddock. *I was the only one standing outside. *And yes, I was kinda hoping to talk to him for a sec, maybe get an autograph, etc... * Wouldn't even acknowledge my presence. *He didn't appear too busy, as it was only like 8:30-9:00 on Sat. morning.

But then again, R. Hayden kinda pissed me off as well. *

It is not over yet! He still could get hurt. Not that I would want that, I am just saying that he has not won it yet. Which WSBK race is he going to run? I'd like to see that. See how he fares when he's( the bike mainly) restricted.

That is why it sucks when autographed stuff shows up on ebay.

I understand that these guys have no obligation to acknowledge our presense. I can understand why they would be sick and tired of all of the people trying to talk to them and get autographs. But like any superstar, there is a certain expectation of keeping their fans happy.

It was Sat. morning, and the paddocks had just opened, so it wasn't like he was just about ready for race 1. He also hadn't been bombarded yet by a 1000 fans. I just got the feeling that he wasn't interested in being nice to too many people that weekend. That was the consensus from everyone I knew that was there that weekend.

Maybe I just caught him at a bad time. I never said he was a d#$k. Just that he had an attitude. He's prolly totally different outside of the racing circuit.

But I guess Jake Zemke kinda spoiled me, so I found myself comparing everyone else to him......

Mat Maladin raced one round of our formular xtreem last year at eastern creek ( he came fourth! ) and while I didnt approach him or anything I was standing about ten feet away when they did the post race interview and he was very humble and gave credit to all the other competitors and seemed to be quiet friendly when others approached him after the interview, he was also at Oran Park I think the round b4 that just hanging around and also gave off the same impession?

Re: Matt Mladin

I'd rather watch a guy like Mat with his somewhat distant and uninterested personality and tone than the other end of the spectrum, some cocky a-hole of an athlete like, say, Deon Sanders, who was so full of himself (and made you know it) that it was stomach turning to watch him play or be interviewed afterwards. Mat's all business and doesn't seem interested in doing alot of jawjacking with the media - he would rather get on with the race. At least from my perspective.

As a quick side note, I saw the blowout on SPEED's 2Wheel Tuesday and was stunned at this guy's ability to keep the bike in control under those conditions. He's one helluva rider.
