Re: Burgess is jetting also!

Rossi's crew leaving is much more scary than just Rossi leaving. The bizarre thing is that Yamaha is already staffed up for next year:

Re: Burgess is jetting also!

The pull is so strong from Rossi's camp, that I would guess Burgess and co. will be in Rossi's paddock garage. What they do with the other guys, I have no idea.

Re: Burgess is jetting also!

Looks like Yamaha is willing to pay for engineering in other ways.
Burgess is a great chief mechanic, and Rossi is a great rider, but the big winner? Yamaha?
Rossi will win a race or two next year, but he will also DNF on more than one occasion.
My question is: Will fifth or sixth be considered 'back of the pack' next year, just as it was this year?

Re: Burgess is jetting also!

Maybe Yamaha figures they'll get PR points / prestige / additional sponsorship more sportbike sales by having the best rider, and whatever he demands; in this case Burgess. They're certainly not going to shake Honda's tree for the championship, especially if they blow their whole development budget on perks for Vale.

Re: Burgess is jetting also!

The RC is still the fastest bike so it should make for an interesting year. Maybe Ducati will have an easier time of keeping up without Rossi on the Honda.

Re: Burgess is jetting also!

Sometimes, you just have to follow a great rider. Rossi could be the greatest rider ever, and to be associated with that is just too strong.

On a related note, did CEII bring his crew with him?

Re: Burgess is jetting also!

Nobody knows, maybe Cyber has caught wind of that on CE's site. I'm curious to know if Gorst is going with him, but I'd bet they already have everyone in place on the Gresini team.

Re: Burgess is jetting also!

I read somewhere that Adrian was not following CE due to the Honda team being set.

Re: Burgess is jetting also!

Roadracing World correspondent Mat Oxley has confirmed that MotoGP World Champion Valentino Rossi is taking most of his crew with him as he defects from Honda to Yamaha for 2004.

The crew, led by Jerry Burgess, was helped along in the decision by incentive payments made by Rossi himself, thought to be in the range of $50,000 each.

Prior to working with Rossi, most of the crew members worked with Mick Doohan.

First priority for the crew will be to sort through the massive adjustability of the Yamaha YZR-M1 and to find a workable baseline setting by averaging the wild range of settings used on the bike during the 2002 and 2003 seasons.
