If only they had put a similar looking swingarm on the street version. That matte black finish sure helps to diquise the hideous fairing transition (from upper to lower). |

The 2004 Honda CBR1000RR Superbike is impressing its new rider, American Honda’s Ben Bostrom.
“I think it’s incredible. It’s the funnest and scariest bike I’ve ever been on,” said Bostrom Monday afternoon during the Dunlop tire test at Daytona International Speedway. “You can pretty much spin the tire anywhere. It’s really good on the front. I’ve never ridden anything close to it; it’s that amazing."
Asked what part of the bike was better than the other bikes he has ridden, Bostrom said, “Every part of it. The motor is so fast. It’s pretty electric. It’s really soft in my hands. It doesn’t vibrate very much. I can’t get used to revving it that high. It keeps pulling from basically nowhere all the way to the rev-limiter. It just pulls all the way through. It steers well. It does everything good so far.
“I’m not used to the bike, and we’ve got a few things to work out on it, but right now I’m smiling, I’m excited every time I get on there.”
Bostrom added that he already has more front-end feel (the missing element in Bostrom’s 2003 AMA Superbike campaign) from the CBR1000RR than the RC51. “Yeah, I can ride the front on this thing. It’s pretty neat,” said Bostrom.
At post time (3:30 p.m. Eastern Time), Bostrom had the fastest time of the test so far at a 1:48.981, about 0.5-second ahead of Yoshimura Suzuki’s Mat Mladin at 1:49.438. |

Even by mladin 'standards' I think it's too early for him to be crying about the bikes.
He knows he was on the bike the rules favored last year, and he still whined.
Looks like he's getting started early, and we'll be listening to his crap from now until next September. |

now, back to the subject at hand....also, did anyone notice that the Superstock R1 is just a few tenths off the Superbike boys' time? not trying to sound like a homer or anything, but me thinks that pretty impressive for basically a stock bike....let's see what day two brings..... |

Within 10 laps ben was in the 1.49s. |

| Re: CBR1000RR at Daytona Test Bikes are on track....I think the time they are displaying for Bostrom is left over from yesterday (high 1:48) while all the others are in the 1:50, 1:51 range about 3 or 4 laps in.
As I type, times are dropping into the 1:49's for Zemke and Mladin
Just a quick note about EBoz's time...I don't think he achived the 1:48 until the third day....IIRC, he was in the 1:50's for day 1 and most of day 2. |

Stock bike my @ss. Other than the use of 16.5" wheels for Superbikes, I'd be willing to bet that at this stage the RR isn't that different. First time out for both bikes, neither have much development in them. After a few months of testing we'll start seeing the differences Honda can get out of the slightly different Superbike rules. |

In the upper left hand corner under the "Series Specs" header, you'll see a "Daytona Tire Test" link. That link opens a new window that allows you to see updated lap times with either HTML or Flash refreshes (I've never tried the HTML since the Flash refresh seems to work well). |

dude...you are too funny...even YOU have to admit that those are pretty good times for ANY bike in preseason testing....hell, the track record is a 1:47.7 I think, that Nicky set back in '01(although that was before the chicane changes)....take the blinders off....we get the point...you hate Yamaha...cool, no biggie...move on....... |
