I know you know a lot more about racing and racers than most of us, but I have to question that statement.
He's fast, no doubt. But this guy crashed out of the lead as a 250 rider on countless occasions, and loses his sh#t psychologically at the mere sight of the number 46..
If he can finish ahead of Gibernau, Edwards, Tamada and Hayden this year I'll have a lot more respect for him. Seems like he lacks the mental toughness of the real champions to me. |

I don't think he is a particularly great competitor...but as a rider, he's in the upper percentile....just my 2 cents...

| Re: For the Biaggi fan club members I personally don't like him but he is a great rider. He just met up against much stronger competition in the top class when he switched over from 250s than he thought he'd have. I also don't think his style suits the big bike much.
A lot of people didn't think much of Schwantz 'cause he wasn't winning a title, and even when he did take it some still didn't call him a great because his two main competitors were out. But Schwantz was and still is one of the greatest racers ever. |

But those same people didn't say anything after the last championship against Bayliss in WSBK. |

I have a sneaking suspicion that there will be more MotoGP trophies going to Americans this next season than Italians for the first time in years.
That will be interesting to watch. Who will accumulate more points: Hayden and Edwards or Rossi and Biaggi?
My money is on our southern boys. |

| Re: For the Biaggi fan club members That technique is one and the same that I have campaigned for 30 + years. Riding the front tire and using mucho body english while trying to stay as smooth as possible. Rossi is the exception for Italian riders, as he isn't very fluid at all, because he ran motocross and dirt track when he started out (like most of the American and Australian riders). Luca Cadalora had a similar style (to Max's) and to the extreme of the technique, take a look at pre-Marlboro Norick Abe (before Roberts beat him into mediocrity).
As I mentioned, Max is his own worst enemy, but if you have ever done this at the upper levels, you have to shake your head watching this guy ride. Hey, I think Schwantz was the best rider of all time, even though his record certainly doesn't bear up to that, watching him outbrake Rainey into the second to last turn at Hockenheim in 92’ shows what talent and determination can do.
If Max had the determination/perseverance along with his talent and excellent reflexes, Rossi would be just another rider at the front of the pack . . .

Without Rossi in the championship at all, Capirossi and Biaatchi would be front runners. Rossi has the determination/perseverance to go with his skill. You don't come back from breaks in concentration (run offs) and time penalties unless you are great, on any bike. There is an article on MotoGP right now where Capirossi pretty much says that Rossi will win races next year. His competitors are going to know better than any of us or some announcer. I think Rossi is suffering from Jordanism, where everyone is just tired of hearing about how good he is. And that is a shame, 5 championships, more than 50 wins, and a 50% win percentage. If he was a baseball player, a .500 average would be the greatest in history, even better than the Babe himself. Let's see what Max does next year against Rossi and the 'inferior' Yamaha. |

Riding the front is something I'm not sure I will fully understand. Riding the back is something I'm sure I'll never do.
Funny huh? Go damn I feel like a waste of flesh sometimes.

| Re: For the Biaggi fan club members As I thought I had made clear, Max isn't the ultimate winner. He is a great rider and has had some great races. I appreciate his style amongst the "spin it up and point" majority of riders in the class today.
