Is Gauloises a tobacoo company? I know the two Yamaha teams are partners.

Re: Sepang GP test

Well thats pretty stupid of Rossi. He said that he wont ever ride for a ciggarette sponsor, right? If your going to ride for a tobacco sponsor, why not Ducati? He would be favorite to win championship on Ducati this year. Wierd if you ask me.

Re: Sepang GP test

He said he preferred to not ride for a Tobacco sponsored team if he could do it. I don't remember an ultimatum from the Dr.

Rossi actually had death threats for riding for Repsol. Do you remember that, it was during last season, around the summer break if I remember right?? And his current team and Fortuna, are both cigarette sponsored, so is Ducati, how can you win? Tobacco sponsors are everywhere.

He didn't go to Ducati because they couldn't match $ with the offer from Yamaha. And they wanted him to do boatloads of PR with their bikes and such, guest appearances etc. Yamaha wasn't as constrictive, and much better in relations compared to Honda. Many Honda GP and WSBK riders have complained about Honda and the way they get treated, so he isn't the only one it bothered. Colin got pretty ticked off about it as well.

Don't make the guy out to be a prick, he isn't. His last deal with Honda, he made them donate $ = to his salary to cancer research, or some other charity.

Log on to motogp.com tomorrow or Soup, they'll have his first day on the Yamaha times etc.

I wasn't making him out to be a prick. He is a great rider on and off the track, no doubt he is the best rider, and role model in motorcycle racing today. Not knocking him for riding on tobacco team, mainly wondering why he wouldn't want to ride for an Italian based bike. But you cleared that up, and now I remember reading those articles on motograndprix.com, thanks for the insight.

You never know, the M1 could be the best bike in MotoGp with Rossi as the pilot. He is that good. Vale said that if he doesn't win this year, then technology is now more important then rider. He not going to dominate the season, but if everything goes well with the bike switch and Yamaha supplies him with an improved bike from last years model, look for him to take 8 podiums in a row on the second half.

This season will be the best MotoGp season ever, but its also only going to get better. Its going to be exciting to see Colin and Valentino dicing through the pack together. First time they've been in the same series riding on semi-equal, well not equal maybe 60/40 bikes. Riding together at Suzuka doesn't really count. Valentino is sure to double his MotoGp titles. Sure hope to see Colin take at least one Championship before he calls it quits, and Hayden is a shoe in for a future champion landing in the dream bike team in his first season. Sete is a strong favorite this year, along with Biaggi, theres too many names to list. Future is really bright for MotoGp, hmmm... paid traveling job for MotoGp ...that would be sweet. A boy can dream.

Re: Sepang GP test

I've not noticed this before on websites, but the Yamaha MGP site has a new disclaimer in the photo gallery....

Due to tobacco sponsorship policies, not all photography contained on this website is available to members of the public.
