Jeez, Proto, you're such a tease. I venture to suggest the preceding 31
posts have exhausted all reasonable attempts to play your game. So,
dude, out with it. What the hell do you know that we don't?

Just getting my cup of warm milk ready. Hot water bottle too, as it's getting a tad cold over here, predicting -4 degree C or something. They are even suggesting a light sprinkling of snow sometime this week. My kids are very excited, we haven't had any for a few years now. Still riding my bike to work every day (the Hornet - daren't take the Monster out as it might dissolve. Bloody thing never wants to stat anyway.)

Anyhow back to the engine question. My source is of the highest order. Have to be a bit delicate here as he's directly involved with the project and he's sworn to secrecy as am I. Don't want the fellow to lose his job over a bit of fun. However you lot haven't exhausted the possibilities yet. Who else has either made a GP motor and/or bike but not raced it. There are a few more you haven't mentioned.

I can think of at least three more.

Hint: What engine did the Petronas start out with?

Re: Harris WCM motor?

BT this is what the Sauber GP bike, built by Harris looked like. Just before it ran dem laps at Malaysia GP couple of years back with McKenzie on board. Project got abandoned and bike morphed into the Foggy Petronas FP1

Got more pics if you want to see them.

Kawasaki? I wouldn't call what they're doing racing.

I thought Petronas started out with Sauber?

Edit: Went and looked, Petronas did start with Sauber.

Re: Harris WCM motor?

Sauber uses a "Petronas" engine in their F1 car. The Petronas engine is really just the previous year Ferrari engine.
I know both Renault and McLaren have shown interest in motorcycle racing, but I don't recall McLaren ever building a complete bike. I vaguely remember a Renault, though.
A McLaren/Harris pairing would make sense from the standpoint that they are both British, but I have no idea whether that is the case.
It could very well be Renault.

Re: Harris WCM motor?

My silence after Tigerblade's last but one post is deafening

The current Foggy Petronas FP1 motor is a revised Sauber motor. Air induction at the front, exhaust at the rear, opposite to convention on an across the frame motor. I think it runs backwards rotation too. Sauber hadn't got enough money to do it on their own, Petronas stepped up to the plate and got involved. However they never wanted to go GP racing but Sauber did, so Sauber backed away. Think the bikes went back to Switzerland.
Petronas were interested in WSB (and road bikes) and carried the project forward. Someone else took on the motor re-design. I think the chassis is made in Banbury. (BTW a mate of mine made the mould tool for the vac-form windscreen. None fitted to road bikes yet, no one can get the paint masking right where the headlight shines through the depp Vection)

Personally I've heard nothing about any F1 team involvemnet with bike racing apart from some of the egineering design houses. e.g. Cosworth and the Aprilia motor. I know that Lotus did some engine management work on the Triumph Daytona, but that was for road not track. A chum of mine used to be an aerodynamacist at McLaren. I'll ask him tonight about any bike involvement.

Possibly amore likely involvement would be Ilmor (makers of the f1 Mercedes motor)
