| Re: H.I.D. Xenon Headlights I spent a couple hours in the garage last night installing 2 relays for my HID's. It was fairly easy, but I took my time doing it to make sure i did everything right. I still need to silicon the connections to the relays to waterproof everthing, but other than that it all works just fine. The relays were 6.49 each from radio shack, plus I bought 2 spools of 12 guage wire (red and black so i didnt confuse the wires) plus a few various connectors. If I can do it, anyone can lol. I started the bike in the garage to test them out, but couldnt take them on a test ride, as its actually raining here in sunny CA! |

Originally Posted by 2k929 post pics! | When I go back in later tonight to silicone the relay connections, I'll take some pics. Its VERY easy to do. Running the wires and hiding them is the most difficult part. (if i can do it, anyone can, just take your time)
First, I grounded the HID light to the battery. I used black 12 guage wires for all grounds.
Then I ran a very short black wire from the relay to the ground on the battery.
Then the power wire (I used red 12 guage wires for hot wires) from the headlight goes into the relay to act as the on/off switch. I connected this to the headlight socket by attaching a blade style connector and sticking it into the headlight plug. I made sure it was secure and taped it up with electrical tape. I did not cut any of my stock wiring harness.
Next, I connected a very short red wire from the battery to the relay.(the package the relay came in says what plug is what on the relay). This provides your power to your HID's, the relay just acts as a switch that is toggled when it senses power from your stock headlight connection.
Then I connected a long red wire from the relay to an inline 20 amp fuse, and then to the power wire on the HID's.
I used the usually wire connectors that you squeeze together and female wire plugs to connect them to the relay. For the battery connections, i used some of those flat washer type connectors that slip right under the bolt on the terminal. I have a zx10, your cbr battery terminals might be different. Take your time and make sure all your connections are going to the right places. I started at my stock headlight connection and worked my way to the battery, and then back to the headlights.
All of this keeps the HID's isolated from your electrical system in case there is ever a problem. It also helps to prevent the problem of the HID's ballast drawing too much power on startup from the thin stock wiring harness and causing shorts/meltdowns. They only use 35 watts while running, but require alot more to start up.
I had to do this for both lights, so its a bit of work, but its worth it. Also, i always make sure my high beam is off when i start the bike. I turn the high beam on after the motor starts so there isnt so much stress at once on the battery. |

| Re: H.I.D. Xenon Headlights I been running on PIAA white+white. imported from japan, and the low beams are bright, peopel are always telling me to turn off my high beams... the wht+wht are imported and are enough for me and i never had any wiring problems, on any of my bikes plug and play. thats enough for me, but they are costly $135.00 but worth it!!!
NOTE: if you walk in front of the lights the lights go right through you like an X-ray..LOL |

| Re: H.I.D. Xenon Headlights Hey guys! Sorry about the delay in my response. After the moderators moved my thread the site never told me of any responses so I never checked it. Any way so heres an update and a few answered questions. Quote:

Originally Posted by djice929 Ive heard that its best to install a relay from the battery to ignite the HID ballast. Im not sure of what specific relay to buy or how to hook it up though. I've heard that the ballast pull alot of power on start up and sometimes the stock harness can't handle it, and it could melt your wires, and not just in the headlight wires. Hopefully someone can give a detailed explanation of how to install a relay and which one to purchase. | I would definately recomend installing with a relay if one isnt provided in the kit.( not totally for sure about that) Either way they arent but a couple of bucks at the auto parts store, and can save alot of headache anytime you add or upgrade your vehicles electronics. Originally Posted by fizzerchris I tried a set of these on my 97 CBR900... within about 6 hours of riding, I blew a fuse; both headlights were out. I replaced with a higher amperage fuse and a bulb burned out within two hours (both high and low). People at the bike shop said car headlights draw too much electricity (100 watt vs 55 watt); they said I could upgrade the wiring harness or use Piaa bulbs (they come in vairous "colors"), made for lower wattage vehicles (motorcycles, snowmobiles, atvs, etc), but are just as bright (seriously; I compared them to my friend's 06 BMW... just as bright). The Piaa's were $80 for a pair at the bike shop. I also had to make sure they were "H4" type bulbs to fit the socket (the Piaa paperwork shows 8 different kinds), so make sure whatever bulbs you get will fit your bike. | What you were talking about is a set of HID LOOK bulbs. not true HIDs. and yes the pull twice the wattage as a normal bulb. True HIDs actually pull half the wattage (35watts to be exact) though a relay would still be recommended
Now let me re-state that this is a group by the I am trying to get together, so those of you that are seriously interested and choose to send money, be advised that does not mean i am immediatly placing the order. I need a miniumum of 10 purchases before i submit my order. if this status is not achieved all moneys will be refunded. So if your interested please PM me and be sure to tell me:
What bike-
What size bulb-
What heat-3500,6000,10000,12000
Low/High/both-
I will reply with the updated price including shipping to you from my doorstep. My prefered payment method is Paypal. I will hand out this address upon request in PM.
Once again i appologize for the delay in my replys.

Or was that an oopsie?
I might be willing to try another set if it didn't require a bunch of rewiring (I might be able to do a relay; djice929's description made it sound easy) |
