| My winter Project Ive been reading and looking at whats been going on in here. Figured it was time to share what ive been working on.
Started with this
Blew the motor after 10 years of loving it , fixed it, rode it, wanted something else. Parted it out, bought this
Hated it after a month of riding it. Just wasnt what I thought it would be. Did a little upgrading, still didnt like it. Found a guy that wanted an SV to race, and with the suspension almost complete and upgraded cams and a full jet kit and a free dyno tune still to go, he traded me even for this.
Yeah right I mean this
So I like the bike, but not the riding position. I rode a speed triple (older model) and thought hmm I can do this.
First the headlight so I can sell off what I didnt need and fund what I really wanted to do.
Then mounted the dash temporary.
Bike ran cooler, but waited until winter to go any farther. |

| Re: My winter Project So not too much more to go. I have a new bracket for the gauge, and am working on a zx9r fighter too for a friend. But so far am very happy with the conversion.
Ill do a little more as I have time. I have a temp mirror, and I cracked my red screen already, but have a replacement coming. (car ran me off the road) Probably wont do much more as I just want to ride it more than look at it. Dont want it to be too fugly. I might actually put some saddle bags and a tail bag and do some sport touring into some other states later this summer. |

| Re: My winter Project I havent gotten the chance to throw it around in a set of good corners. Hopefully this weekend!! At least thats the plan. Ive rode it a few times, and it feels really light compaired to what it did. It will take me a little while to get used to.
As far as the rise and pull of the bars im not sure. I went to a local shop and just tried various styles until I found the seating position I was after. I had the risers mounted and rode the bike over to the shop with the clip-ons. Its got me leaning just slightly foreward but with no pressure, almost like the moose fatty, just $60 bones less. I think I gave $20ish for the one I have.
The bars are very wide. I could measure them if youd like. |

| Re: My winter Project BTW I hard wired my speedo in. I removed the front harness, took out all the wires I couldnt use and soldered in the Koso then put the pins were I needed them in the factory harness plug. Took a full day. I had to mount the pickup to the rear wheel. Ill Probably refab a mount and attach it to the underside of the swingarm. |

| Re: My winter Project Tlstreak,
Nice job, good to see it in stages.
I'm just about to start mine next week so might be asking a few questions.
I notice you used the special risers (angled to suit the blade yoke), I just bought a new billet top yoke like Delboy (fighter954) instead. The risers only seem to be available in the states and it was getting a bit expensive with the poor exchange rate and shipping so I got a kit (yoke, cable, bars, risers and hoses) from within the uk.
Question for Delboy (fighter954) if he's lurking - did you notice a difference putting the new top yoke on, I reckon it must drop the front by about 1" (original yoke is angled and replacement is flat!) ? For me that would be ok, sharper steering etc, but I just bought an 'extreme' tail raiser kit too!!! I hope I'm not riding along at 45 degrees!!! - turn on a sixpence (nickle?) but unstable above 50mph !!! We'll see.
Tlstreak, your main harness wiring looks tidy where the fairing infills are removed, was there a lot of work to do there (re-routing, etc?). However, the handle bar control wires look short! do they pull when you turn the handlebars or is there more slack in them than it looks?
Any way nice job.
I'll stick up some photos when I get going.
Cheers Raymond. |

Cheers Raymond. | The replacement yoke is flat on top, but you'll find its thicker than the original yoke in the center, so even though its flat, its still sits flush with the top of the forks, but yeah it sweet, and with drag bars on it still corners like i have the clip ons on it...

| Re: My winter Project The first photo that the cable are above the triple was basically just trying to figure out wires, brake lines, throttle cable. I had not removed the tank and airbox yet to let some slack out.
They are currently under the triple and one of them is still a little tight. I beleave I can still let out a little slack, if not ill be getting longer cables. Not to the extreme, only like 1-2 inches. If I do go longer rest assured ill have that cable number saved for any one else.
Routing the main harness wires isnt too bad. I would suggest doing it the same time you loosen throttle cables. Youll need to remove the tank and airbox. I had to loosen the radiator too. The gauge hook up was a PITA even before the Koso, I had to make it longer for the OEM. Any one has issues with that I can explain what I did, plan on taking a long time soldering though! |

Yeh, 5 minutes deciding what to do often ends up in a week of fiddling about in the garage

They are fairly easy to fit. The triple is super easy to drill. I think the easy way is to line the top up with bars attached already so you get the angle 100% correct. Mark the triple where they sit on both sides , then measure the width and were to drill from the risers. There is no way to mark the holes from the top side.
They do come with a steel plate that mounts under the triple for support. |

What sucks is I did it twice. I made all the right mods for the OEM gauge. Made a bracket for the bars and mounted it. All I had to do was set it on the bracket and put 2 nuts on the bolts I modded inside the gauge housing and plug it up.........then I dropped the whole thing.
The Koso is nice though. Cant wait to get the new bracket and mount it somewhere else. Will have to wait and see where that happens to be next week. I got the Koso for the price of a used 929 gauge.
I still have the wiring diagram on the wall. Once I get a little more time, and some warm weather and clean the garage out I will do it.
I am installing a Koso on a zx9 here soon. I can do some photos of that install. |

The bar wires are actually almost too long. I have them zip tied to the bars down into the headlight and a wiring harness bracket on the lower triple taking up a little more slack prior to the connector. I even ran one down and back up under the tank with the smaller main harness connecter (cant recall which right now) Once I moved the main above the rad, it was the most obvious place to route that wire.
Oh I kept the horn because I do use it often, and had to make that wire connection longer. Probably could have move it, but it isnt an eye sore to me under the headlight, so I left it. |
