I need to buy an ignition switch. but can't justify it at the moment...life sux!
so...I might be hotwiring it:nocomment:
last update saw the engine in the frame and up on its own legs..
I had a box of wires but no idea where anything went!...kinda like a jigsaw puzzle with no box lid.
so I joined a blackbird forum..got some info and downloaded the service manual.
long story>short...
The engine carbs airbox coils and everything in the main engine area is in...
everything is plumbed and wired up...and ready to be butchered at the front and rear ends.
need a subframe welding...and sorting the lights etc at the front. and sort an oil cooler mount bracket
kinda coming together now!
all thanks to having no friggin job!!
lots of engine stuffed in..looks kinda ugly but brutal
I can see the finish line...wanna ride the frikkin thing:nodyes: |
Looking good man, I know your pain of the dole aswell, just been hit with that one myself! (being skint sucks when bike stuff is quite pricey ) |

I got a new job...start on Monday
spent a bit of time in the garage...playing with the stringy bits
decided to mount the battery inside the engine bay...
its going here...lots of room for the other leccy bits...
I spotted an old Fireblade battery box and undertray thingy in the back of my garage. simple...rip it to peices and fit it in the engine cavity...using the threaded holes i the side of the frame and a cunning fixing solution elsewhere. should get it all sorted tomorrow all being well.
also bust the original angel eye lights...picked these slanted shaped one up the other day...they'll have to do for now
lots of other small jobs...once the electrics are sorted I can get the subframe sorted and we are closer to getting it on the road.

| Re: big bird ! spent some time i the garage today.
got the battery box in...but couldn't work out how to get rid of the alarm thats wired into it...or how to fit it if I leave it in...its wired like a box of noodles!
someone could work it all out in 10 mins I'm sure...but I gave up coz it was frying my head.
so I sat there...looking at the seat unit...and set about the subframe to prep it for welding..attacked it with an angle grinder!
and it looked kinda cool...
but the lines weren't right...so...
bottom subframe support in line with the frame angle.
seat in line with the top line of the frame.
I reckon the bike might look cool as **** all stumpy!
I reckon I'm gonna go stumpy...maybe the cbr6 tail is too long??!??
sounds like a bloody good excuse to spend hours searching ebay and buying more crap that ultimately ends up thrown in the back of the garage!
and while we're at it,...
the mudguard is ugly...need to cut it down...work in progress! |

What's the seat unit on your Spondon? Looks like a Honda 250 race seat to me, or possibly an Aprillia job. Like it.
Me is fighting the urge to do a fighter - I know it's the way forward for me to start riding again, but I also know what I'm like with my ideas, they just end up as half completed/learnt things. |

| Re: big bird ! Thought it looked like an RS unit.
Anyway, I have a cunning plan ('cos I like planning ). Bandit 1200 base. Strip it completely, take the angle grinder to the sub frame and cut it off. New sub frame to fit either an RS250 RSW seat unit, or one of the 08-09 CBR1000 race seats (if I can find a supplier in the UK. Found one in the US, but not exactly cheap). GSXR USD forks, one off yokes, Harris rearsets, new set of clocks (I like the Acewell units), paint and powder coat.
Stripped down, simple and not at all like a rat with a gold tooth.
Not the cheapest of plans, but you get what you pay for.
Now to get my butt in gear and finish changing the chain and sprockets on the GSXR and then sell it.
Some links to components that you might find useful:
Cheap and compact switchgear: http://motorcycleproducts.co.uk/cata...6857ae6c 6b6f
Not so cheap, but tidy, clocks: ACEWELL Digi Dash Speedometers > Motorcycle - Road / Custom / Race Replica
I like the one at the bottom of the page on the left ACE-2856AB. Everthing in one small unit. Sod the cost |

And yup, no blade tails in this country so scrap that. Anyway, I like the idea of an RS250 tail.
Motogadget looks nice, but £450..... Feck me.
And if I keep talking I'll have to build it |

| Re: big bird ! not much progress today..
re-fitted the exhaust..got the can to sit right.
fitted some new rearsets, and modified the brake so it fitted the rearsets (they aren't made for the bird,...so I bought em of ebay and modded them)
then played around with the oil cooler mount..the 3rd try at making the brackets so far. the cooler is on the botom of the rad...but I have to go to version 4 which has a few issues to work out!!
and before I could do that I had to straighten out the cooler...was a bit ...a lot...twisted.
so..floor...plank...big hammer....its not flat, but its nearer than it was thismorning!
and hows about THIS for a 'German inspired' seat unit |

Any particular reason why you ditched the Acewell, or was it just 'cos you wanted a really tiny dash?
My eyesight isn't what it once was, so I like the size of the Acewell, but if it's naff then I don't want to spend the cash on it. |

| Re: big bird ! this weekends progress...
well...the few hours I had on it
bled the front brakes
bled the bastard rear...fecking thing took ages...ended up bleeding the cable without the caliper on the end...that got the bugger!
made the oil cooler mount...then made it again....still shite. will have to make V3 next week.
need to make a little chain guard thing...cos the rearsets are damn close to the chain.
tried designing something...but it looked naff...work in progress!
took the seat to peices and cut it up...getting there...will need to trim the seat foam down cos at the moment it drops away in the wrong place. should work out ok.
wanted to get more done this weekend...but got obliterated on Saturday night...head still mings! |
