| big bird ! ok...bout time I started a thread for the blackbird...
engine
1200cc J&E big bore kit, tuned head and other work done in the engine by Mistral
K&N filter
Carbs Dynojetted and set up by Rob at RMD
Blackbird frame
VFR750 back end
seat unit...dunno just yet...but I'm after a kicked up German job...a mate has a link to one but he's dragging hios heels on nailing the deal for me
everything else is gonna be budget all the way...
collecting cheap bits and peices from across the web..
just grabbed a cbr9 front end, and I have a cbr9 or a vfr800 wheel to go for, depends if the rotors fit
blade rear shock ( same length as a bird..but has remote gas and has more adjustment) although I missed out on a MAxton shock at the weekend..bugga!
won't be the prettiest...but it should be an angry ****er that goes like stink!
as ever...a few pics, we like pics:big grin:
sure I'll keep y'all informed
and just for a bit of inspiration...
can't find many fightered birds on the net ( most are gash!!) if you come across any..post em up |

| Re: big bird ! swingarm mount is central...but its offset on a blade
Ive got a blackbird linkage and a blade shock..the linkage triangles are double the thickness of the blade one!...must be expecting more power
was thinking I needed a special shock mount making.
then had a brainwave whilst eating my curry
...just drill another hole in the frame
got the cbr900 front end..slots in nice!
and bought a subframe to be a starting point rather than wait to get one made.
was gonna put the wheels in...but it was too f***in heavy to lift on my own
....will get em in somehow next time.
then played with a couple of cbr6 seat units I've got lying around
dunno wiether to go clip-ons or risers and drag bars...will decide later |

Which tail piece you thinking of using?

| Re: big bird ! And so we have another Saturday....and another coupla hours in the garage.
so,...previously everything was just dry fitted...finger tight. so after getting some disc bolts thru the post from ebay I took the front to peices again and built it properly.
decided to start bolting the bits on that I have been stockpiling from ebay...mainly cos I've forgotten what I've bought...was suprised to see a clutch MC on my shelf....forgot I bought one...nearly bought another last night!! and also to spot stuff I need.
made the last spacer for the rear suspension...but the bolts haven't turned up from ebay yet...a week after I bought them >8-(
I then tried to figger out where all the hoses went..and lost about half an hour on a oil line before I realised the oil cooler is fitted in the fairing nose cone on the bird....duuuur.....so I'll need to sort that out..
With the front end in I looked around the garage and saw a cbr600 exhaust system in the corner...hmmmm...lets see what that looks like...so I put the pipes on the engine ( b45tard job THAT was...bloody jigsaw!)..then offered up the cbr zorst. I think it would look ok actually...but I might go underslung. will cut the pipe before the rear split and fit a stubby can...maybe?!?!
also had another play with the seat...and I think its looking better where I put it today
and as usual...I took some pics http://i64.servimg.com/u/f64/12/34/60/76/p2504017.jpg http://i64.servimg.com/u/f64/12/34/60/76/p2504015.jpg http://i64.servimg.com/u/f64/12/34/60/76/p2504016.jpg http://i64.servimg.com/u/f64/12/34/60/76/p2504010.jpg http://i64.servimg.com/u/f64/12/34/60/76/p2504012.jpg http://i64.servimg.com/u/f64/12/34/60/76/p2504013.jpg http://i64.servimg.com/u/f64/12/34/60/76/p2504014.jpg |
