| Re-locating Ignition Switch? Has anybody done this cleanly on an early Blade? Trying to clean up the front end too make room for a Monster headlight bracket.

its on a long lead/wire....
just move it under the seat...opposite side to the fuel tap!
then remove the ignition mount 'ring' and clean it all up.
peesh o pish! |

| Re: Re-locating Ignition Switch? Thanks RadioBloke! Not married to the wheel lock, but would I lose its functionality if I mount the ignition back there?
Was also thinking of replacing ignition switch with an RFID (Guard Dawg) unit which I believe would bypass the switch entirely. In that instance, could I get away with removing the lead/ wire entirely?
Likely that I will simply remount the unit as you suggest, as it sounds relatively simple and much less expensive.

| Re: Re-locating Ignition Switch? Awesome! Might you have any images to detail how/ where exactly you mounted the barrel? Would love to see clean work on the same bike. You do this to your '93 Blade?
Thanks again for the great answers. Really helps!

| Re: Re-locating Ignition Switch? Love your '93! Looks very similar to my bike save the VFR swing arm and wheel. I used an '02 R6 subframe, bat box and plastic on mine.
Thank you for posting the images. Mesh is also a great idea to keep the area between top and bottom subframe tubes tidy.
Now I can get to work moving the switch and finishing the headlight project. Cheers!

| Re: Re-locating Ignition Switch? Bob...its basically using a pipe to act as the resevoir
some racers do it as they don't use the rear often....I used it twice in 5 years of racing!
the downside is that air permiates thru the plastic and can get into the fluid...so regular bleeding is required.
think you can get 'non permiable' plastic pipe...
looks ok....but i prefer a proper bespoke billet pot! |

Seen syringes used in the past.... but wasn't sure how well the brake worked afterwards .....
was just going to lower my pot right down... but it looked a bit cluttered an ugly.... that might be ideal
.....might have to give it the pipe a try

| Re: Re-locating Ignition Switch? RadioB,
Thanks for sending that pic! Exactly what I need to do after I pass California visual inspection. My bike is currently registered in Oregon.
Will be cutting the can ASAP.
BTW, What forks/ front end is that? Did you document this build elsewhere? Thought I'd ask rather than continue the barrage of questions.

This thread keeps getting better and better. Any chance someone has an answer for Dick Hurtz re: his faulty toggle?

| Re: Re-locating Ignition Switch? kblake. you need to do some reading man. this stuff is out there.
to swap tailsections, often you'll have to modify or make a new subframe to fit the tail. take measurements off your mounting points use those for the base, then take measurements off the tail for where you'll need mounting brackets and figure those out.
ignition, you'll need to pull it down from the harness which would require a good amount of stripping the bike to get at all ya wires. find a place on the frame where there used to be a tab to mount fairings and have a little bracket for the ignition made!
