| Re: Dr. Stein grows "funny creatures" Hmmmm. Would be good to check what the battery is showing whilst it is running, and what the stator and other parts are thowing out (but then you'll have to put things back on). Each to their own I say - how much fabrication is needed to put the SSSA onto it? If its way too much, why bother? Also, would it also be easy enough for you to go back to the stock swing arm if you were to change your mind? (also you won't be able to lift the rear end up unless you get a proper SSSA lift)
If you are going to power coat the wheels/rims for example (not sure if the blade has a 16/17" front wheel - might be wise to do the conversion now?) you might have to make up your mind fairly quickly. Have you thought about putting a later blade front end on (USD forks etc etc etc)? Quote:

firstly....giz your shock!!!!...WP...niiiice
secondly....how can you moan and worry about a SSSA when you then go and put USD forks on it?...how many times has that been done?
the long and short of it is that you won't find ANYTHING that hasn't been done yet...short of making your own single side front end ( which has already been done in several ways) or graft adifferent/bespoke swingarm on...which has already been done.
trust me...I know that its SO hard to do owt unique...so go with what looks cool.
SSSA's on blades look cool...end of.
however...grind off all the numbers/tabs/un-needed casting marks and maybe put a brace over it ( all have been done before by the way)
I'm gonna be running my brake lines thru and arm ( again...been done before)
forget original...go with what you think looks cool....build t for you...no-one else!
nice bike to start with tho...
and Loopy...forget sitting on a blade...as soon as you ride one you'll think its as light as a feather...I remember my first ride on a blade...was hooked from that day.
I though I was doing 60mph...was doing 115 round Nottingham Ringroad without trying! |

but... my problem with the SSSA is more... that I'm seeing more and it appears, to me, that many people have just used it and then not balanced the look.... and unique abortion of a bike is not my Idea of cool (altho some may like it.... each to there own eh! )
would rather stick with the std setup if the SSSA is just gunna look tacked on .....
.....guess it's cos I aint really made up my mind what way I want the build to go yet* and the more i think about it the more extreme I wanna go... just gotta work out if i'm capable of doing it
*too many ideas not enoph bikes

| Re: Dr. Stein grows "funny creatures" The need of a special tool, may require the acceptance of not using the SSSA for now.
On the other hand; getting the blade to a Fighter look, and making it work proper, is the most important thing to consider for now. The SSSA can be a later mod, after you have settled all other problems. Who knows? maybe you will find the correct socket/wrench/device, on loan during the biuld, then you can have what you want.
No, I dont think the Tooth Fairy will bring it, no matter how many teeth you put under the pillow .
Maybe a little lookin on Ebay for it, or somebody on this Forum will come off one, long enough for you to use it, or buy it cheap.
In any case, I wish I was doing something like this.

after a week on call I havn't really felt like doing anything*
that said it's been nice to laze around doing pretty much nothing all weekend, contemplating and waiting for some bits to arrive can be quite relaxing... and my current facination for doodling roadkill has kept me amused (so much so... it may well be incorperated into this project )
*except for a bit af jet fiddling and test running the gixxer**
** (152.5 mains at moment skiddy )

| Re: Dr. Stein grows "funny creatures" 152.5 mains is good. As long as that bike pulls all the way, and dosent make a big black clowd. You probably got it. Always a little tweaken and experimenting. By the way; the needles I sent that are in the holder are for 38mm carbs. They are Ti, work great for a while,(until the brass emulsion tubes wear out), and give the best needle range. If you use them, always have another set of emulsion tubes ready. Ti will wear out brass. Yes, I did have 38mm carbs on my Gixxer. They are the best mod carbs for a budget. Guarranteed to make any Gixxer come to life, and reach full potential. Thats just me talken . Your the Wizard.

| Re: Dr. Stein grows "funny creatures" Here comes a bung up of an Idea; A socket can be cut to fit the pockets on the castle nut in question. In other words; give this socket teeth. Yes, the socket will need to be the correct size to meet the diamitter. I have done such a thing before, on a milling machine for just such a purpose. A die grinder with a cutting wheel, or arbor bit will do, to cut the teeth.
Here is a bit of encouragement; SSSA on a Gixxer has been done quite a bit.
SSSA on a Blade IS as Rightious as You can get.
