wiring harness

OK I have my signals, headlight, and gauge working and wired. But OMG this front wiring harness is massive. Ive trimmed, cut , ziptied, soldered. What did you all do to simplify the front wiring harness 929/954 since their close to the same harness.

How did you route it, and what did you move/remove and where too.

Im not crazy about my headlight, but it works. I did the same for my buddies zx9r and his came out so much better. His wiring harness was a joke compaired to ours.

Help me figure out how to tidy the front end. I will be removing the head light and fuel/airbox to have a clear shot at everything again. Any wire not in use is being removed from the harness. I want it done and over with for the last go before labor day weekend so I can move onto something else.

What I want to have is my 3 gauge wires (aftermarket and small) headlight, and turn signals only coming out to the front. Of course the controls, but id like to maybe have the plug relocated also.

Here is whats running thru my mind. Take this big airbox out. The ram air is like a direct shot, and with the flapper removed I was thinking of hacking and making a small compartment in the front of the airbox between the 2 ram air inlet. Then pulling the harness and removing whatever wires I dont need triming the fat so to say which are already dead wires to me already. Then routing my controls and ignition under the tank (I have 2 10mm spacers for wire clearence already. Then remaking turn signal and headlight wires so they are long enough to fit. Then tucking it all in the comparment I made out of the front of the airbox. Which will really just be a cut out box resealed with sheet metal to supply the room under the box and enough room to route the wires under the lip of the tank or under the frame.

Opinions?

Re: wiring harness

There should be more than enough room under the airbox without having to cut it up.

Re: wiring harness

Ive tucked a little under there already. I dont beleave there is enough for everything. I guess I should add keeping it off the motor too. My airbox is a tight fit with just the throttle cables. I really dont think there is enough room.

Re: wiring harness

Not yet. Might have to look into that if its what I think your talking about. That would free up enough room in the perfect spot.

Re: wiring harness

What is the PAIR rubbish? I'm trying to clean up my front end (900rr) and was even thinking of pulling everything out in favor of the Motogadget M-Unit m-Unit

M-Unit is pricey though, so I might try my hand at pulling unnecessary items first.

Re: wiring harness

The short explanation is its an oxygen injection system into the exhaust for emissions. Completley useless on most motors unless you have tight emission laws and inspections.

I didnt remove mine yet. I was able to work around it. I need to go find some aluminum wide enough to cut block off brackets out of. I made everything work, just need to finish the connection for the headlight and turn signals now. I want a small quick disconnect. I have an old zx6 im going to go look at and see if there isnt a plug M/F end I cant theft off its old harness to make things simple later on.

Re: wiring harness

BTW thanks BR you made me take another look at what I intended to do and it worked out pretty nice. I ended up getting a small junction board and ran my headlights and turn signals onto the board. Then mounted it to the old fairing bracket mounts. All my lighting runs into it now and is weather protected and alot out of the way compaired to the mess up under the light before. Really bugged the **** out of me!
