| Re: looking for feedback on my 88 hurricane 1000F project I'LL GIVE YA ALITTLE BACK GROUND ON THE BIKE WHEN I FIRST GOT THE BIKE, IT WAS A MESS. THE RAME WAS TWISTED I HAD TO CUT THE FRAME AWAY FROM THE ENGINE. LUCKILY, THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE BLOCK SUPRISINGLY, THE ENGINE, AS FAR AS I CAN SEE IS IN GREAT SHAPE. ALTHOUGH I NEVER TOOK A LOOK AT THE INSIDE OF THE MOTOR SO I CAN'T BE A 100% THE MOTOR ONLY HAS 24,000 MILES ON IT. ANYWAY I REPLACED ALL THE FLUIDES, THE SEALS AND I ALSO GOT A NEW FRAME FOR THE BIKE. SO FAR MOST OF THE BIKE I HAVE PUT BACK TOGETHER. ALSO, WHEN I FIRST GOTTEN THE BIKE, ALL THE PLASTICS WERE GARBAGE. THEY WERE ALL CRACKED SO I HAD TO HUNT MOST OF THEM DOWN. SO FAR I GOT MOST OF THEM THE ONLY ONES THAT I'M STILL SEARCHING FOR ARE THE PLASTICS FOR THE RIGHT SIDE AND THE BELLY PAN AND ALSO IF ANYBODY KNOWS OF A PLACE THAT CAN REPAIR PLASTICS IF YOU COULD LET ME KNOW THAT WOULD GREAT. SO FAR THATS UP TO WERE I'M AT RIGHT NOW |

| Re: looking for feedback on my 88 hurricane 1000F project OK AS FOR THE CUSTOME STUFF I WANT TO DO I'M LEAVING THE FRONT COWL OFF OF THE BIKE AND I'M ALSO GONNA TRY TO MOUNT SOME TYPE OF HEADLIGHT UP TO THE FRONT(ANY IDEA'S). I ALSO WANT TO REPOSITION THE OIL COOLER BEHIND THE FORKS. ANOTHER THING I WAS THINKING ABOUT WAS USING WIDER TIRES. I REALLY WANT A 180 OR A 185 IN THE REAR AND A 120 IN THE FRONT. IF ANYBODY HAS ANY IDEA IF THIS WOULD WORK, OR WHAT I WOULD HAVE TO DO TO MAKE IT WORK, IT WOULD BE GREAT. ALSO ANOTHER THING I'M DOING IS GETTING RID OF THE BACK FENDER OVER THE REAR TIRE, AND ALSO THAT BIG BULKY TURNING SIGNAL CLUSTER. I'M GOING TO REWIRE THE TURNING SIGNAL INTO THE TAIL LIGHTS. I ALSO PAINTED THE WHOLE BIKE A FLAT BLACK LOOK. SO WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT WHAT I WANT TO DO PLEASE LET ME KNOW AND IF YOU HAVE ANY TIPS OR INSIGHT THAT WOULD BE GREAT I LOVE THE FEEDBACK. THANKS!!!! |

| Re: looking for feedback on my 88 hurricane 1000F project .... Lights I like my big spotlights* but there plenty of options out there
as for wheels... I'd Transplant a more modern swinger and front end**... then possibly an offset sprocket (some spacers) depending how much you need to move it to line up the chain
*take a look at my fighter thread (bit love/hate.. I love um... altho.. still aint tryed them in the dark & on the road)
** others may suggest a different route

How much room do you have between the side of the tyre and the chain?
If it's more than 15mm you can run a 180 tyre but you'd need a 5.5" or 6.0" wheel.

| Re: looking for feedback on my 88 hurricane 1000F project I would agree with Bob above, if it were my bike I'd look at putting modern swingarm, shock, forks, brakes and wheels on it.
According to the fiche, the '90 model was the first with cartridge forks so yours should still be crap damper rods.

For non-supporting members there's a limit of 1mb total uploads I think?

I don't understand what you want feedback on.
It's a black bike that needs some work which is going to be tons of fun for you. I raced against a '90 model and they're pretty grunty engines, but they're very long and the chassis is bloody heavy. If it were mine I'd be pouring my efforts into lightening it and shortening it.
