I wasn't aware the 919 had anything like this. Is it in the airbox or exhaust system?

in the airbox in told by 919 guys it stays close under 5000 rpm,,honda looked at it twice.cjanged some parts still did not closed it stays open..shopped called honda..honda said it runs on barometric pressure and will close in higher altitudes....

Okay but it's hard to know where to direct you without being able to see how it functions. Does the flapper move okay when you poke it?
Does it move when you suck on the hose?
If it does then the problem is in whatever system produces the vacuum.

flapper moves ok freely when you poke it...when you suck on the vacuum line it closes...honda reply to the shop was the flapper works on barometric pressure and if i was in higher altitude it wound close ?....not sure if its bull or not...most guys plug the vacuum line to keep it open....

If it's only designed to function due to barometric pressure changes what exactly is the problem? How often are you changing altitude?

not a problem except i feel honda is blowing smoke up my but...im told it works on vaccuum only .. and is closed all the time under 5000 rpm because of vacuum...once vacuum is lost high rpm or wot it opens

You said yours doesn't work though so do you mean it's not opening above 5000rpm?

Since you said sucking on the hose closes it then I guess it's not getting vacuum?
I would assume there's an electric valve somewhere in the vacuum line to allow vacuum through to the flapper. Can you bypass this valve by connecting the hoses straight through?
Have you ridden with it closed? Does it make any difference?
Have you checked other bikes to see if theirs are closed at idle?

.. was down honda today looked threw the service manual showed them what the manual says about the valve ..they feel, its the ecu.. theres one wire in the system and like you said it sends a signal to close to shut down the vacuum.....there calling honda again...honda dont want to fix it because its not a drivebilty issue lol thats true,,,but the manual has two pages on trouble shooting that problem,,,it will get fixed just have to go through some loops....im not sure if i rode it with the system working..i didnt check it untill 5000 miles when i looked at the air filter...its explaned to me it helps low end torque by improving the intake velocity in lower rpm range

Re: flapper valve

what i found out threw honda tech people,,,the flapper valve does not work like the manual stated .. the manual is wrong is what they said..will work under different loads and rpm to knock down some of the noise...so for the first time i did the mod that keeps the flapper open all the time...i can feel a difference in the way the bike pulls at certain rpms...
