| Re: new Gixxer 1000 hey guys.....not sure if the new Gixxer thou has been released elsewhere yet, but I came up against one on a trackday yesterday...for those that aren't familiar my '03 Blade has a full Serpent system with PCIIIr.....16hp up on standard with 146 at the rear wheel....and the Gixxer SMOKED me in a straight line. I had easily better corner exit speed, but that Suzuki absoultely motored down the straights ( I caught up again under brakes and with corner speed, but I am also a bit faster generally than the gixxer rider ). My mate on the Gixxer dropped 3 seconds off his previous best on this trackday ( which was his first real ride of the bike ).....I have to say I am impressed.....but I guess we'll wait to see if his bike self-destructs in any way hey ? |

| Re: new Gixxer 1000 I highly doubt that these bikes will self-destruct. They have been using and improving the current design, mechanically, for three years now. If anything, this bike should be more sound than the bikes that preceded it. It was quite a weapon when it was introduced in 2001, and that weapon has been refined and improved every year since. If ever there was a time to get the bike, it would be now. |

| Re: new Gixxer 1000 According to the various moto-rags (where most of us outside the industry have to go to get information and riding impressions on motorcycles we don't own), it would seem the Suzuki will be the liter class king for the foreseeable future. While I have owned more Hondas than any other marque, I've always been something of a fan of the GSX-R line. The new one appears to be a beast in its own class. |

| Re: new Gixxer 1000 I'm impressed with all the reviews on the GSXR1000, and I always find the reviewer using the phrase 'in capable hands', or 'race resume not required, but highly recommended'. I still have not tapped 90% out of the 929, myself...I don't think I would be able to use this bikes awesome power, or I'd be down on the ground from trying to. Alot of you track junkies probably could, but I'm still happy with my slow 929. |

SuperDave : I'm impressed with all the reviews on the GSXR1000, and I always find the reviewer using the phrase 'in capable hands', or 'race resume not required, but highly recommended'. *I still have not tapped 90% out of the 929, myself...I don't think I would be able to use this bikes awesome power, or I'd be down on the ground from trying to. *Alot of you track junkies probably could, but I'm still happy with my slow 929.
| Superdave, I wasn't commenting on needing to get this bike because it is the fastest. I just bought a 2003 954 a couple weeks ago. I could have gotten a GSXR if I wanted one, but I prefer the 954 for a variety of reasons. Like you, I can't use all the power of my 954, and I'm not sure I ever could. Nobody here is going to tell you your 929 is 'slow'. We all know better. I was simply stating the undeniable fact that the new GSXR1000 is the fastest bike out there right now, and that it is as reliable as it is ever going to get in its evolutionary form. For all we know, this very bike could be the third fastest/best sportbike on the planet from a performance standpoint this time next year. For now, it is clearly #1.
I still say.....RIDE RED!!! |

And my 929 would be slow compared to the GSXR, I can live with that. I'll leave that beast to the pro's and expert riders. Maybe in a couple years...hmmmmm.... |

| Re: new Gixxer 1000 It's true that all of the latest reviews are that the Gixxer 1000 is the king of the superbikes right now, but I still like the looks, weight and 'flickability' of the 954 better, and it has way more than enough power for me. At least the Gixxer looks a little better now that they got rid of those white wheels - I never much cared for those. |

| There is a performance shop where I live. Owner states that Gixxers have much more problems than any Hondas he deals with amd I've read much of the same for years. The SV seems to be Stunnasuki's one bike that is bulletproof.
Also, the GSXR1000 has a displacement advantage over the Honda, seeing as the Honda has been 929cc/954cc, not 1000cc's. Let's see what happens next year. |

I might get flamed for this, but...
I'm a sportbike fan first and then a Honda fan second. I've only owned Hondas but I really like Yamaha's line-up and Suzuki makes some baaaaaaad bikes. I dunno...there's nothing wrong with being loyal to Honda but I'd say that most all of the sportbikes that are available today are awesome.
My prediction for the new Honda is that it will be refined, powerful, and will sell like hotcakes but it still won't be at the same level as the Gixxer1000. I'm not holding out for it. Yamaha's R1 has always been a strong bike and if they rework it next year to catch the 1000, they might be holding the bragging rights. |

| Re: new Gixxer 1000 This years Gixxer 1000 is a really nice bike. I got a chance to take an extended ride with it at Deals Gap and the surrounding roads this year.
Compared to the previous version, the bike felt much smaller and much more comfortable (seat was actually too soft for twisty riding). The seating position and reach to the bars is neutral as I could put quite a few miles on it during the day in comfort.
The engine is very smooth (although the throttle felt twitchy too me - funny as the owner said the same about mine). The engine was not explosive as I was expecting, but just spun up quickly and was deceptively fast. The bike felt fine in the Gap, but on roads such as 28 with high speed sweepers it really felt in its element.
The brakes were tops although some of that is attributable to the Brembo master cyclinder the owner added.
One bad thing goes back to Suzuki quality or their effort to save weight is that the paint on the bike is very thin.
Overall, definitely a bike I would consider owning, but I'll wait until 2004 to see what honda has up its sleeve |

| Re: new Gixxer 1000 I don't mind having the 929.
Now, when (and if! I outrun '03 GSXR1000s on the track, they will know who the better rider is because my machine will be considered an even bigger underdog than last year. If I had the faster bike, they could say that it's the bike that beat them, not the rider. And I would wonder too. Beating someone when you know you have better equipment than they do is a little less fulfilling.
This will be fun to see what happens. We'll see if any are running at my Road America track days next week. They will be able to honk right on by on the three long straights. Then I'll feel all slow and safe in comparison!
I can't wait! Plus the AMA races there are coming this weekend. |

Unfortunatly i agree and think the new honda cbr/rcb whater 1000 will still be down on hp compared to the gixxer.... |

| Re: new Gixxer 1000 If the 2004 literbike is down on power to the Gixxer, Honda will have to eat crow. In every report I read or hear about the new bike, HONDA people are quoted as saying 'it will have at least GSXR 1000 HP'. Honda has never promised to meet or beat another manufacturer's HP numbers before, as far as I can remember. With all the promises they are making, all the commercials about the RC211V being the greatest bike in the history of the world, all the talk of that technology working its' way down to the streets, and 1 full year to use what they did with the 600rr and develope a liter-class engine and chassis that far exceeds anything they have put out before, better end with the most kick-ass streetbike on the planet or Big Red will have egg all over their proud face!
Sportbike riders are going to hold them to their word, and I think many riders who have been loyal to Honda will bolt to other manufacturers for the sheer performance their machines have over the Honda.
If the bike they create is as other-worldly as we hope, the other manufacturers will be in a world of hurt!
We shall see! |

ZX9RCAM : Did I hear somebody mention the 2004 ZX-10R....
| I'll be keeping an eye on it...
Honda claimed 150hp when the 929 first came out. All this speculation, hype, talk, etc...is just talk and we're going to have to wait until the bike comes out to see how it does. The 900RR and the 929RR both were underpowered compared to the ZX-9 and the R1. Now the 954 gives up some HP to the 1000 (and the R1, depending on what magazine you read). I don't expect the new Honda to be the HP king, given their history. What I think it will be is the next generation of the Honda liter-bike: refined, reliable, user-friendly, stylish, etc. |

| Re: new Gixxer 1000 I haven't had the fun of riding a '03 1k yet but I did a few sessions on a 02 Gixxer 1k at the Streets of Willow, and it was a friggin handfull. So much power to spin the rear, I was really unsettled by it. I know it's my fault that it made me nervious, but the 929 just feels so much better under me. I had some serious issues with the braking on the Gixxer, 6 pot brakes and it couldn't stop me where I wanted it too.
I'd like to try a 03 Gixxer 1k but I think that it's been mentioned here before, I'm not using 90% of the 929's capability on the track, going any bigger would just be wrong, fun, but wrong |

The other devil on my right shoulder says that i need to stop bitching and ride my 929 for a couple more years, because it's still too powerful for a commuter bike. Not to mention loads more comfortable and reliable than a squidzuki. |
