| GSXR ate it. Here is the thing I hate...my phone rings at 8:30, and it's one of my girl's friends...she asked me if I am ok, and tells me about this bike wreck in town...she wanted to make sure i was ok. 5 minutes later my girl (on her way home) calls, to make sure it was not me. then 2 more of my girls friends, call...then my dad... I hate the fact that everyone worries about that..and all my family assumes the worst when they see a bad one in town. I feel like i am putting friends and fam though this...
I live in a pretty small town, and this kid ( I don't know him personaly...but I know of him) is in the hospital right now, but the scanner said, just road rash. he just got the bike in march...(first bike in a long time for him). |

| Re: GSXR ate it. Glad to hear that the guy is OK. But you should feel honored that you have so many people who care about you - you're not putting them through anything.
edit: edumacate your family & friends as to what make/model you ride. That should relieve some stress in most instances.

| A good idea, but lets face it, to non-bike types, they all look the same. And depending on how bad the crash is, it would be hard even for those in the know to pick out what it is without actually walking up to it for a closer look.
Sorry to hear about the wreck, but I feel for your situation SMTB. But of course, if we were in their shoes, we'd feel the exact same way. |

| Re: GSXR ate it. Sorry to hear about anyone wrecking.
I understand what you mean about family/friends being concerned about your well being after hearing of a m/c crash. I live near Atlanta so every time there is a m/c wreck my family and friends don't automatically assume it may be me but I do hear about the incident. It would seem that everyone I know has a sworn duty to inform me that someone has been seriously injured (or worse) on a bike. These news flashes are usually accompanied with some sort of look as to imply... 'Be careful, you may be next'. I know that they just don't want to see anything happen to me... but it drives me nutz! |

| Re: GSXR ate it. Isnt it funny how people always do that?
My family is the same way. I live in a city (ha!) of 250k and everytime something hits the news, my family calls to see if it might have been me.
Glad to know they care, but they need not worry so much.
I hope! |

| Re: GSXR ate it. Sorry to hear about the wreck, and I hope he gets through it okay. Hate to hear about this kind of thing.
About concerned relatives and friends...I don't have stats, but I think it's just common sense that if you compare M/C accidents to auto accidents, you would find a couple of things:
- the likelihood of severe injury or death for M/C riders is many times that of auto drivers, due to the exposure of the rider and relative lack of protection.
- the number of accidents per number of vehicles on the road must be higher for bikes than for cars. In other words, (my guess is that) M/C riders are more likely to be involved in an accident than drivers of automobiles...? Then again, most guys who are even "hard core riders" likely drive more miles (in a car) than they ride each year...
I don't know that I would give up riding because of a concerned friend or relative, but I think it's important to remember that people care and worry about us riders, and maybe we have a small responsibility (to them) to take care of ourselves out there. |

| Re: GSXR ate it. Well, he's got bleeding on the brain. So, I am sure that cannot be good. He had his helmet on (state law)...but...
He had a 2000 R1, and just got rid of it last year. I guess he picked up this 2003 GSXR 1K 3 weeks ago. It was cold last night (45 F) and here in VT there is still sand around on the corners this time of year (spring). They do sweep...but they have not got to all the roads yet.
