p.s. anyone heard anything on a redesign? I noticed that bike still has essentially the same everything appearance-wise as it has since day 1 (aside from colors) what gives? | At the risk of bragging on the Hayabusa, the reason they've changed virtually nothing since the bike came out in '99 is, there simply isn't anything better in what I'll collectively describe as the Open GT Class. Neither the Honda XX nor the Kwak ZX-12R can outrun the busa, neither have the busa's 100 ft-lbs torque, and whether either one is more comfortable or a better tourer than the Suzuki is a matter of debate.
The other issue at hand is, the Hayabusa was designed in the wind tunnel. It's about as slippery as you can get. As such, I doubt you'll see a change to the angular styling popular today, at least not a change simply for the sake of change. http://www.sportrider.com/tech/146_0106_aero/
A "market forced" redesign maybe? Indeed, there was some scuttlebutt at Suzuki about penning a new bike for 2005 until the Triumph "busa killer" project went tits up. Those talks have ended according to a friend of mine who is in a position to know (or so I believe he is in such a position to know).
Finally, http://www.labusas.org/ is a bunch of freaking criminals and squids (but their start page is pretty cool methinks). http://suzukihayabusa.org/ is slightly better http://www.hayabusa.org/ is the only one I'm spending any real time on. I actually found the guy from Des Monies who did the track day on his busa back in April when I went down there for the school on my FZ1. Neat. Still though, the site is no Fireblades.org and you have to do a little sifting, but there are like minded guys on the forum who appreciate the bike for the comfortable, dependable, powerful tourer it is.
But those are the main players in the world of busa boards, FWIW.

I think he has done a couple that run around 325 HP naturally aspirated on pump gas. Just the thing for those pesky 300 mile overnights . . . |
I gotta tell ya Frank, as judicious as I normally am with the throttle, picking very carefully time/place to let the engine go some, I don't believe I could deal with that sort of hp.
Besides, that would pretty much fly in the face of my new "No mods, only accessories!" M.O., now wouldn't it?
I'll tell ya what I've done to this thing thus far, and it ain't got a thing to do with the motor or performance... - Pit Bull spools (on bike)
- Ventura Spada Tail bag & mouting rack (on order)
- 3/4" Genmar bar riser (on order)
- clear Puig double bubble (on order - the stock screen is so low I can't see the tops of the gauges)
That's it, sport touring stuff. I'm heading to the Ozarks in September, solo, about 500 miles one way. No hard plans, plenty of vacation to burn, need to air out and clear my head. This is the perfect Chainbike.

In keeping stock exhaust, the OEM mudflap, etc., people can easily identify I'm not in with the bling or street racing crowd.

| Re: World's Fastest Tomato (or "Pretty in Pink") I just glanced at the title about a tomato and didn't read it. I saw lots of replys, so I decided to read part of it. All I saw was a Busa, and thought, who cares, so I left again. Now I actually read it, and can't believe my eyes. Another bike!!! Can't you just do what other cops do when they are bored, and write a handful of tickets? The Busa has loads of power (future read: too much power for me and I scared myself, so I sold it), and actually handles decient. It even weighs less than a VFR. Is it a great looking bike, I don't think so, but many like it. I take issue with the cockroach egg sack at the back of the bike, JM2C. Buy an FJR next time for your long rides. It will carry your new wife nicely. Enjoy your new ride till the next one. You will leave it stock, ya right. Easy money on that one. Lets recap:
A Honda, Yamaha, Ducati, Kawasaki, and now a Suzuki. That only leaves Aprilia, a Buell or a Hardley. There are others, but I am betting on an Aprilia Tuono. Is this a full moon thing? |

I think the Busa is up for a nose job. They can keep the form and the ram air as is.. but play with the light, turn signals (pop them in the mirrors)... whatever.. Suzuki is sitting on they're laurals. It's gonna cost them!
Seeing that Chain has no problem changing bikes as he changes underwear... what are the odds that he falls in love with Honda's new to come power house GT bike ?
Food for thought.
Goodnight Y'all! |

I think you are correct about the form/fashion statement and no market forced redesigns. You reminded me of '99 just then, when every magazine from ym to popular mechanics had a mention of the 'busa and the years of engineering that had gone into making the perfectly aerodynamic fastest road burner there could have been.
Timed well with the release of pampers in europe I guess, because the 300km/h limit ended any and all chance of (out of the crate) competition for the big bird.
I like it and considered buying one (I must admit I'm guilty of that with about every bike you and half the other members on here have owned ). Never a HD /Buell though...everything else once or twice.
Been thinking about getting onto a more commute-friendly ride yet a "tourer" for when I need to go a few hundred miles away to meet friends. The KLR is um, interesting at 90mph. But anyways, the FJR/ST came to mind, then I thought about how much I'd kill myself if I did that before I was 30 or would grind off all the hard parts should I choose the long painful way out (disbelief and conver$ion). Been silently modding a busa to suit, observing your progression as it was well timed (thanks ). Not that Im buying anytime soon, it will be awhile - so hopefully I can hold out for that Honda YYZZXXRR or whatever it will be next year...?
Thx again for the links, now go ride |

(I sorta doubt that will happen, but you never know.)
Reason I like the KLR so much (beyond all the reasons it's known as a great machine) is, for every nicely paved two lane stretches of Loess Hills Scenic Byway that I ride in western Iowa, there are three to five marked Byway loops that aren't paved. Exploring those would be so fun!
