World's Fastest Tomato (Chain buys a Busa!)

I'm back for purposes of announcing my new way of life. Ride more, worry less. That's why I'm going to spend less time posting, more time riding, at least for the next couple months until the cold weather and snow besets us here in the Midwest.

Call me what you will, but I've gone and traded off bikes. Again. After careful negotiations with the woman in my life, I agreed to go down to one toy in the garage, and only one. Fair enough, it's hard to justify two motorcycles when I'm supposed to be saving for a wedding.

For a week I thought long and hard about what I wanted that one toy to be. Keeping the Monster was out. I didn't trust it like I needed to in order to keep it long term. The 636 as my only ride? Nope, it was ruled out as well. Too much of a rack for more than hour long sport rides or an occasional trackday.

So my good friend at the dealership put together a two-bike trade deal on the motorcycle I've made noise about owning for years, a 'busa. (Now would be your cue to ferret out past threads about my disowning big bore fours and whatnot; you'll be able to prove me a liar with very little legwork. However, board elders and those with a penchant for the Search Button will be able to attest - I've pined for a 'busa for a long, long time. ).

Thus, I present to you my '04 Suzuki Hayabusa Limited (the LTD edition includes special paint, badging on the top triple, all black frame and swingarm, wheel lip treatment, and production in limited numbers). Note the totally out of character pearl red metallic paint job. It is truly jaw dropping in person.

Mods? A set of Pit Bull spools and a Tankslapper. Oh, and a spare rear Bridgestone BT56 tire. Really, one's coming from SW Moto Tires. With 155 hp and 100 ft-lbs torque, rear tire changes take place with oil and filter every 3,000 miles.

If you've never sampled one of these things, you need to before you die. This is the fourth 'busa I've ridden and I honestly believe nothing short of owning your own F-18 can compare with the experience - MHO.

Even more out of character for me than red paint: I'm riding it dirty, and riding it alot. Matter of fact, I can't get off the damned thing...

These pics are from Friday's seven hour, 330 mile, four state tour. (For the record, there is no "four corners" area anywhere near me... I had to work to collect these road signs - though it's really not "work" riding a busa. Ultra smooth suspension, a great stock saddle, very comfy ergos, good wind protection, and the most flexible powerband in the world... might as well
be a one gear electric bike).

From what I'm told, you'll need that spare rear pretty soon.

Re: World's Fastest Tomato

welcome back, hope the beatings the woman gave you are all better now. but a 'busa? come on I thought you liked turning? those things just don't dive into corners like a real sport bike as I've been told (never rode one myself). the Limited edition red is sweet looking though, seen one in person myself.

so you had the Monster a few months, the 636 what 2 months if that, and now a week on the busa so whats coming in the next week or 2? the ultimate mod is changing to a completely different bike so you're still keeping to the mod lifestyle.

good looking bike. A good friend of mine has one as well. He would always talk about trading in his katana, but his wife wouldn't let him, until the wife came home with 2 matching helmets one day...

Re: World's Fastest Tomato

Thanks for the golf claps ( ) and general kudos fellas.

No, I won't be taking it to the track, at least I have no immediate plans of doing so (although the busa's handling just might surprise you, CBR929RE).

I reckon there are worse ways a guy can spend his money than on motorcycles. They're not drugs.

In the end, you have to do what drives you. If you're a track afficionado, I say more power to ya. If you're into dirt or touring, that's cool too. Something in between?- fine.

Personally, I've simply spent too much time polishing, modding, or writing about my various past bikes rather than spend that time actually riding them.

I'll still be around, just don't look for my usual wordy, 10 post a day activity anymore... too many beautiful roads to ride, counties to explore, photos to take, and miles to log. The best of the riding season is before us (September/October).

Yeah, but that is part of what makes motorcycling fun too. I love riding, I love going to the track, but I also love taking the thing apart and doing stuff to it. It is fun to tinker

Great point T1 - I don't disagree.

My problem (my past problem I should say) is I used to stay home on a perfectly nice night and polish a bike or log onto the computer to talk about it instead of getting on the SOB and riding it.

No longer.

I ride stock, and polishing/posting are reserved for winter or rain days...

I hear ya Baccy.

I have to tell you, I'm still high from my daytrip on Friday. I had heretofore logged a maximum of 295 miles in one day (on the 954 last summer while vacationing in the Smokies, a place you'd think would compel a guy to ride even further - and I was damn sore afterwards).

Friday's four state, 330 mile tour was easily the best day of my motorcycling life. Alone with my thoughts, stopping, turning and going when and where I wanted. I forced myself to come home though because I was 100 miles over my 600 mile first service mileage... otherwise, I was totally fresh and wanted to ride some more.

For seven hours I was without a care in the world. I don't know how to put a price on that...

I sorta got a feeling a long time back when you posted pics of your friends' Busa that you really, really liked that bike.

I am not surprised about the choice.

Congrats about your new ride. I'll wager the paint under the sun looks way better than your posted pics.
