Yanking the Chain - Busa finding...

I teased Chain the other day about his recommending I get the 'Busa because I was looking for a freeway commuter bike that I could actually ride a few days without stopping for gas.(60 miles round trip to work)

In responding, I commented that my insurance company charges by cc, and I just knew the 1300 would have me doing a killer Ned Beatty impersonation.

So just for giggles and shizzles, I put in a request for a quote to the insurance company. Granted, I'm 38, married, and haven't been convicted with a DUI.

The 'Busa would run me a whopping $90 more a year to insure than the 'Blade. Good gawd. (That's $800/yr with extended medical benefits for the curious. $540 without the medical)

I'm happy with the 'Blade, so this is really just screwing around, but it's nice to know that if I decide to go for some big honkin cubes, I won't be taking it up the poop chute on insurance.

Heck - I'm seriously considering dropping the coin for a pair of ohlins forks for the fiddy-fo. That would make a real nice down payment on the 'Busa otherwise. I think I'll see if I can't do up an economy map for winter commuting to boost range in the meantime.

Sorry for rambling,
Dan

Re: Yanking the Chain - Busa finding...

Blorton - FWIW replacement value of the machine has alot to do with things besides cc's. To insure a 636 my Ins. would be ~$650 a year, whereas my klr (1997 650cc) is about 200$. But the replacement value plays alot of the pricing tag (at least in my area).

EDIT: forgot the actual point on my comparo - being that a busa would run me about 780$ a year, and a 1krr would run me about $890 or so. Go figure!
