Real world GSX-R1K dyno report

A guy and his son from the busa board just bought new Gixxer Thous. His boy had his bike dyno'd before it left the shop. Impressive enough, but maybe not the world beater power levels some folks were talking about. I don't frequent the board all that much because it's "wheelie-this, chrome that, yadda yadda", but sometimes you can pluck some useful intel...

Edit: Mike Auderer of A.M.I. Racing in Tacoma did the dyno run. He claims '03 & 04's dynoed out between 140 & 144. So it looks as though Suzuki got an additional honest 10 horses.

AMCN dynoed one just recently. Saw 168ps at the back wheel. So around 160hp at the back wheel.

Re: Real world GSX-R1K dyno report

I'm not so sure I trust the dyno that is measuring the bikes for AMCN - I think it is very optimistic. Whenever I see a bike pumping ou rear wheel HP near that of it's claimed HP (I think it's 172 for the gixxer 1k) I know something is wrong. I'd like to see it on sooks Dyno.

154 rear wheel bhp is pretty farking good though.

Just on a side track - what the f*ck does being military have to do with calling BS on something? Like, a soldier never lies? I understand the respect and thanks that they do deserve for the job they do, but if someone makes a BS claim, I'd call it whether they are military or not. Unless it's because they have a rifle pointing at your head, but then, that be cause you is the enemy...

I also see what ya mean by the "wheelie this" crap Chain. Anyway, still interestign to see a real world figure. Like to see it back to back with the other big boys...

New bike put on the dyno? Wonder how it was broken in etc etc? Those numbers mean NOTHING IMHO.

RE: new bike on dyno - there are plenty of people who are in the "break it in hard" camp, just as there are in the "easy does it baby" camp. do your research and choose your own poison...

Re: Real world GSX-R1K dyno report

A friend of mine got his 05 last week. His ride last year was an 04 that was very healthy and put around 160 to the wheel. The mapping for the bike was done at ECS Dyno in Mesa, same place that did my mapping. He said his bone stock 05 feels every bit as strong as is modded 04. Coming from this guy that says a lot. Now if he'll just let me ride the dang thing.

Re: Real world GSX-R1K dyno report

Wouldn't it be awesome if the sheet printed out the "smoothing" setting used for the plot.....

Here's a conversation I've actually heard at the dyno...between a customer that just purchased some expensive bolt-ons....

Customer: "Damn...I would have thought there would be a bigger gain."

Shop Owner: "We're still working on the mapping...we'll tweak it some more, that's when you will see the big gains..."

Customer: "Cool...."

Shop Owner: (to dyno operator) "Tweak the smoothing and run it again..."

Re: Real world GSX-R1K dyno report

I figured the numbers would be right around the Kwak ZX-10 numbers. It's supposed to have around a 14 horsepower gain from the 04 which made around 150 at the wheel.
