Re: new gsxr1000 - impressive!

I rode a brand new GSXR1k this weekend and it was definitely different. The seating position was a lot more comfy than my RR. Seems like the seat is really low. The power delivery was almost like a two-stroke because of the way the power hits. Nothing until about 7k and then it just takes off. It is quicker than the RR but doesnt have any "feel" to the motor. It seems like the bike to have on the track with the weight down low and a motor that really runs at high rpm. It looks tiny because of the narrow midsection and small tailpiece.

Yeah, just what you want, coming out of a tight turn like T2 at the Creek or Honda at PI, be at about 7 and try getting on the throttle. Nothing .then............................ WHACK. Needless to say, in the first round of Oz superbike at PI onthe weekend, that the CBR still KICKED IT'S ARSE. haha

What I wanna see are full moto-gp replica styles - V-5 990 cc bikes.

How cool would that be eh? Roll up on a 'Yamaha M1 or an RC-211V'.

Just detune them a bit and you're set.

Cheers.
Alex.

I think Ducati was thinking of releasing their moto gp replica bike for the street. Was going to retail at something like 55,000 USD.

MotoGP rules state that the bike be non-production-based. It would be interesting just how much of a "replica" a streetbike could be without making its donor illegal for competition...

Re: new gsxr1000 - impressive!

What does "production based" mean though?

Could they build a bike to the exact same dimensions, using different materials and manufacturing techniques?

IE, build the yammie motor with cast motor cases rather than billet...

Kinda what I'm getting at though. Your "replica" will be about as close to a real MotoGP bike as the Nicky replica is to an American Honda RC51. WCM sure had a lot of problems the year before last with their not-quite-an-R1 bike.
