Went to Eastern Creek today to check out a track day, and see if I could find Vern and his R6 - whilst looking (didn't find him) I saw a gixxer thou blast past into turn one, along with another bike (think it was an old yammie FZR600 in orange) anyway, marvelled at how fast they went into turn one, next second I hear screaming and a red flag waving, I look back and see the gixxer still sliding, along with the orange yammie in a puff of brown dust. Not sure how the riders were, seems they were both 'ok' but the gixxer was big time damaged, and the yammie seemed to have had a bit of har dluck too - but not so bad (from the side I saw).

One thing that did strike me was the amazing number of riders that did not slow down, or only slowed downa bit when the red flag was out.

Anyway, that was my big moment for the day.

I've only been on one track day. On one lap, I saw a rider (newbie) sort of ride off the track probably due to target fixation, and run into a wall at a walking pace, maybe at 30 degrees. I can't even remember if the bike fell over or not, but it probably did. The rider was going so slow there was no possibility of damage or injury, but darn it, it took me two or three laps to get that out of my head and get my focus back.

I cannot imagine watching a crash like that up close and personal - and not have it affect your riding. I guess that's why the big boys get the big bucks.

Funny you should say that, I was thinking that I should have taken my cam to take some footage of vern (had I found him) and was cursing that I had not taken it. Will take it for sure next time...

So they went past you too fast into turn 1? I find that turn hairy at the best of times, but still love the track. A test ride of the 2000 fireblade on that track led me to owning one now, what a hoot that was.

Well, Icouldn't quite figure out if they crashed coz one was going to fast and forced the other off, or what - but I quit elike the track, turn one always makes me cringe but once you are through it all is ok
