04-05 GSXR 600 Brakes

Hammer et al,

I've heard rumblings on the WERA board of our G6's having less than desireable front brakes. I've noticed myself a shudder in the front end during hard braking.

Some have gone through changing brake lines and master cylinders to fix the problem to no avail. The thing that I've heard that does the job is changing the brake pads. See, the 04-05 G6's have the same calipers as the same year (I think) 636, yet, Kawi used 4 pads per caliper whereas Suzuki used 2. Changing to the Kawi brake pads allowed them to float and fixed the problem.

So I ask: What pads are you G6's owners running?

SBS pads.

I hear the rotors are junk. The metal it not up to par, why I do not know maybe someone else can chime in on that. I have not rode on the track yet to see how the new binders will perform.

noticed that problem on a friends 05 G6. We were thinking it was a warped rotor but maybe not if others are experiencing it too. also could be they all warp.

I,m not to knowledgable about the g6s floating rotors but there is a way to to stop the warping and let them float as they should most kwacks need it done.when they come standard they generally dont float as spec as they are over tight. If IF your discs have a rim centred on the inside of the o rings which it floats on you can take the rotors off and using the same size socket as as the rim but not exceeding it put it on a bit of wood and using sum force hit the socket on the rim inverting it allowing the rotors to float. sounds awsum underload when done. best thing to do is buy a knackered one off e-bay and experiment.

I don't believe that it's the rotors.

Re: 04-05 GSXR 600 Brakes

talked to my friend about it tonight. he said it doesn't do it anymore. he hasn't actually done anything to fix it, the wheels were just chromed and had new bearings installed but the brakes weren't actually touched.
