I've got just over 1000 miles on my new Bus and just took my first two-up ride last weekend. I was well ... disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE this bike - but both myself and my passenger found it less comfortable than my 954RR or my 1000RR riding two up. I'm only 5 foot ten and my girl is only 5 foot 4. I'm far forward on my seat and that leaves a big gap between us which forces her to lean forward (onto me) too much. She ended up complaining about her back and I felt like I was holding us both up for the whole ride. My wrists and hands took the brunt of the punishment - they were numb by 40 or so miles.

You'd better ride one with your s/o before you commit.

That's something too consider. Thanks JC. I might fare a little better at 6'2", and wife at 5'3", but I think risers might be on order if I go this route.

She really liked the seat - she said it was much bigger and a little softer than my previous RR's. It was just the extra distance between us that made her feel somewhat uncomfortable.

Your being 4 inches taller than me may totally take care of the problem I mentioned. If I slid way back in the seat she liked it, but then I had to reach too far for the bars. Risers would probably lessen the problem as well.

Like I said - you better ride one first.

I sat on a Bus and a ZX-14 and compared them side by side over the weekend.

I'd definitely go with the 14. It was noticably more comfortable.

I agree. The 14 has a single seat like the XX, not two seperate seats like the bus and RR's.

I just hate Kawasaki - so that ruled the 14 out.

That whole "engine may stop at any time", and the 10's 1st year disintegrating rim kinda steered me away from the 1st year 14.

If I was willing to buy used, a 1100XX is probably what it'd be.

New, I'd risk the 14.

I've always thought riding a Bus would be great as a big fast GT, but compared to the other bikes, it's ergos remind me too much of a GSXR.

And I have always respected Kawi as an engine company...I'd love to try the most powerful, fastest streetbike ever built.

Although most of my experience is with motocross bikes (I've had five KX's), I agree. Kawi always had the best motors, but the rest of the bikes were, IMHO, junk.

I'd go w/ the busa between those options!

My dad has an '06 FJR1300, its great to do long distance w/, he did the iron butt thing just a little bit ago... Only downside for me was its huge, and its sitting to straight up... Maybe as a future option :-)

But Busa is definately my vote! They're quite comfy in my opinion

I suppose I should actually earn the rep not just get it for some smart ass remark.

I like the idea of an XX. can't go wrong with Honda reliability. I've rode one for a few short miles and it was comfy and smooth. never rode a busa so can't really compare. of the choice between FZ1 and Busa I'd probably have to say busa. best thing would be to try to get a ride on both with your wife on back.

It's not even a fair comparison - Hayabusa all the way. I've owned both, did a 600 mile day on the busa and some long rides on the Fizzer as well.

The last gen FZ1 needs a full jet kit (complicated installation, take it from me), carb synch and TPS tweaking in order to run well. Even in a relatively high state of street tune with the jet kit and a pipe, you'll be 30 hp and 25 lb-ft. torque behind the Suzuki which is the Yamaha's equal in the turns at a sport-ride pace.

The busa saddle is very comfortable, one of the best stock seats around. Corbin makes a cool Gunfighter with backrest for your wife. I had one and it adds more legroom and a big dose of comfort and security for the passenger.

The Suzuki needs no suspension alterations beyond more shock preload in order to run two-up. Despite the new ZX-14 getting alot of attention in the rags, the busa still has one of the great King Kong motors of all time and you won't even know your wife is on the back when you need to pull a hill or make a pass in top gear. Very stout.

More than acceptable wind protection with a Puig DB or touring screen, good range if you can keep your foot out of it, comfortable, powerful, reliable, a superior road bike.

LTL- Yeah, a few months ago when this idea struck (the last time I heard the tirade from "The One Who Decides") I thought about a CBR1100xx. They are damn hard to find in California.

I guess we know a good thing when we see one, and don't want to sell.

SV has that same stepped seat, mini-pad thing the new FZ-1 has, and I'd go with the I-4 before the V, as I have grown up with them. Also, I've read the '05 Busa spring rates are better, can be dialed in for 2, and are more compliant(?). I'll get the static sag set, but I'm not going B's out, and am even keeping the stock pipes.


So, to reiterate, the contenders are:

'05-Newer Busa
ZRX or ZZR 12's
'05-Older FZ-1

Cant pull it? Financially? There are a lot of used FJRs out there for 9k or less with lots of mods and low miles. Check the classifieds on the FJR owners assoc for some. The 06's are coming out and folks are ditching their perfectly good 04s and 05s for the latest greatest. I love mine.

I got turned off on 'Busa's this week.

The first place I call, which is one of the 1st posts of this thread, had a Busa for $8999. So I call Tuesday, and ask for a description.

I yes, very nice to help you, yes, the Hayabusa has custom paint , new pipes , and only 8000 miles on the odometer - but really 3000 miles. (drum roll please)

Me- Why does it show 8000 miles, when it only has 3000?

Them - Well the clusters been replaced. It's a salvage.

So, nothing in stone yet, but I'm still in the hunt.


Diesel- California bikes as a rule, cost 1 to 2000 dollars more than anywhere else, because they are California legal. I'm trying to stay under 10k (just a personal limit) I've seen a couple FJR's just over 10k, so it's not out of the question. I've decided to wait until summers over, and inventories start to clear, unless I see something I can't pass up.

There is always the Fizzey in the wings though, and the stats are okay- 133 hp 66 torque....

Don't rule out the better bike between the two we've talked about simply because some of the owners dick 'em up with chrome and ghey paint. There are plenty of 'adult enthusiast' owned Hayabusas to choose from if you're patient and look around.

The Busa is the bike to go with. Trust me.

They are comfortable, fast, will corner with the best of sportbikes once you learn to ride it, and can be made extremely comfortable.
