| Re: Serial modding continues LOL @ ND. You're the only one who read far enough down the blog to find out that a pipe was the FIRST thing I did.
Anyway, thanks for the positive remarks fellas. It's a fun bike. Maybe the most overall fun a guy can have on two wheels. There are faster bikes, lighter bikes, etc., but there aren't alot of motorcycles with this combination of good looks, soul, torque and handling for just over five grand (I stole the damned thing from the local shop).
Getsome, you were right.
Mojave, I doubt I'll sell this little scooter in three months, but I'm thinking hard about adding a bike to the garage for my 40th B-Day next spring... either a Road Star Warrior or V-Rod. Yep, it's just about power cruiser time. |

| Re: Serial modding continues Chain, if you're thinking about the V-Rod, don't. Get a Street Rod instead. THe V-Rod is so long and low and raked out it is almost unrideable. I dragged the pipes on an exit ramp without even trying. Horrible bike. Street Rod, OTOH = |

I'm gonna test ride a few cruisers and other types of bikes I normally don't ride at the women's conference. No, I'll never give up sportbikes, but a muscle cruiser might be fun sometimes... |

Street Rod, OTOH = | The sportbike part of my brain gravitates toward the shorter fork, bump in power, and racier ergos of the Street Rod over the V-Rod, but I think I ought to just get the V-Rod and accept Cruiserdom once and for all. There is something that just looks a bit "off" about the Street Rod. Besides, it's not like the standard V-Rod is lacking in power with about 115 at the rear tire.
I believe my wife would support a move like this if I timed it to coincide with my 40th next spring. She told me last night on the way to Sonic for a banana split that she'd ride with me more frequently if I had something more two-up appropriate. |

The Vrod has great power, it's just that I thought the handling was dangerously bad. It "flops" like a big chopper. Until you're doing about 40mph, it feels like it could fall over at any time. Seating position is awful too, with your legs spayed out way in front of you.
I understand what you're saying about mellowing out and just cruising, just make sure you get a good demo ride before you buy. Hell, maybe you'll like it. I was happy to give the damn keys back. |

| Re: Serial modding continues If price were no object, this limited production Screamin' Eagle V-Rod would be the e-ticket ride methinks. LINK
However, spending the better part of $30K on a motorcycle isn't anything I'll do in this lifetime, especially when you can get into a regular V-Rod in Omaha for around 13 (they aren't selling well for whatever reason). |

It ran like a scalded ape. The guy knows what he's doing.
That said, some users of the TRE report that real world benefits are dubious. This mod only affects gears 1-4 when operating at less than 50% throttle, so it's not like it does you a world of good when you're trying to make time anyway.
Long Chain-ish way of answering, but no, I've not used the TRE. |
