| Re: GSXR 1000 frame splits in 1/2 while doing 20 mph Listening to the news it is funny how they blame Using aluminum for a light wieght frame blah blah blah. the news is way to sensational. I hope he is being honest and suzuki does what is right. (doubtfull on both of those)
The bandit 1200 ate oil due to a design flaw. suzuki would not fix the problem unless the bike ate more than a quart every 1000 miles. Kinda told me something about that company. |

| Re: GSXR 1000 frame splits in 1/2 while doing 20 mph 20 MPH sent him to intensive care? Yeah right, he was doing a wheelie with no gear and dropped the nose really fast. I've crashed racing BMX at 20mph right into berms and been fine... pansie. |

| Re: GSXR 1000 frame splits in 1/2 while doing 20 mph I bought a new honda civic that couldn't pass the ball bearing test. The door on the right rear did not line up perfectly. i asked for a new car. they gave me a couple new doors and a rental car when they replaced the doors.
it was perfectly lined up when they were done the secound time. |

But go back with an oil consumption issue...
Actually I can't bash Honda much, haven't dealt with them personally on that. But Toyota I have gone that route with and will not again.

| Re: GSXR 1000 frame splits in 1/2 while doing 20 mph I'm guessing the jackass in this story dropped a tank spreader onto a curb.
Not doubting the validity of the whole crappy welding thing, but

Sure, I'll believe that when me **** turns purple, and smells like rainbow sherbet. |

| Re: GSXR 1000 frame splits in 1/2 while doing 20 mph Has this dude been taking Carnie Wilson on the back of his sled on Friday nights? This is BS. While it may have happened when he said it did, how many times did he slam the front end down prior to this "incident".
It also stirs my disdain for the media. People reporting on issues with conviction that have no concept of what they are reporting on. |

| Re: GSXR 1000 frame splits in 1/2 while doing 20 mph Less than 100 yards from his house, you can see the trenches carved, Nick says by the muffler after the frame below him snapped in two, and sent him flying.
ok, well, if the frame snapped in half the muffler would point up not down, hmmm.........first clue.
also, 21 yr old, gets new gix 1000, two months later he's in intensive care. Ive heard this before, but of course it's suzuki's fault.
What is the ball bearing test????
Guess what, chevy says the same thing about oil consumption. One Qt. per one hundred gallons of fuel burned is normal due to the nature of all engines. All engines burn oil, some more than others. High rpm driving will aggravate this due to suction forces developed by fast moving pistons. |

| Re: GSXR 1000 frame splits in 1/2 while doing 20 mph P.S. I've personally wrecked at all speeds up to about 75mph on the street, I've been to the hospital but never ICU. I think his speed was a little higher than claimed.
and yes i could've edit'ed but i'm a whore like that. |

| Re: GSXR 1000 frame splits in 1/2 while doing 20 mph Even if the guy was speeding down the street and pulling a few wheelies should the frame really crack in half? Suzuki or the shop can look at the steering head/bearings for abuse and take it from there. If the frame was weakened some how through manufactures defect, wheelies, etc. it would have cracked at some point anyways! |

Wheelies or not, should the frame be splitting like that? |

Suzuki needs to start damage control immediately.

However that assumes he did not perform other 'mods' and is telling the truth.
At first glance in Chain's link though the weld does not look like it penetrated the metal (likely the weld was to cold or the speed to high)

This time last year, the 21-year-old and his dad bought a Suzuki GSXR 1000 – touted then as the fastest production bike on the road.
| So a Gixxer1000 was the fast production bike in '05???? |

| Re: GSXR 1000 frame splits in 1/2 while doing 20 mph Ok, I just watched the video. He was moving stuff out of the garage, then just jumps on bike to ride up the street, probably not wearing his gear; if he has any. Maybe he was going 20 at the bottom of his driveway, but I don't think he would slide from the middle of the street, through a mailbox, across a lawn, and then into the middle of a driveway.
Was that break all along the weld? Wouldn't you notice a big crack forming up the weld before the whole thing snapped all the way through? |
