| Purchased a 2006 GSXR-750.......well...for an hour anyway. I drove 35 miles to a dealer who had the 2006 GSXR 750 in the Yellow/Black color and traded in my 929.
First off, the manager would not allow "test rides" that day. The sales person stated it depended on his mood.
Anyway, I took a vacation day and stripped the 929 of some after market goodies and drove down there.
The GSXR750 was just beautiful to look at, I mean it was kick ass looking. I did a lot of reading of reviews in most of the magazines and all the reviews were excellent (except for one thing).
So when I arrived at the dealership the manager STILL wouldn't allow a test drive although I had the title to the 929 and a check for the difference in hand. He stated I had to sign all the paperwork and if I didn't like it I could cancel the deal.
Off I went. I immediately noticed serious buzzing in the grips and foot pegs. I wasn't crazy at all with the exhaust note, maybe it would grow on me, way way different than I expected for an inline 4.
The power was very linear, and the bike was serious fast even keeping it down during break-in rpm range.
But the buzzing! My God.
I drove back into town and pulled over. Was it going to get better? Was I going to just have to get used to it and live with my fingers tingling/numb and my feet as well? It seemed the higher up in the rpm the less vibration, or maybe I was just concentrating on the speed instead. The bike was considerably lighter and easier to turn (obviously), and the suspension was nice considering the HUGE bumps on St Rt 14.
Nope. I couldn't do it. I'd rather have my 929 (or another Honda) than make payments on this beautiful but too annoying Gixxer.
I did a U turn and hauled ass back to the dealer. I was wondering what to do if they were jerks and refused to cancel the deal. By the way, that bike is diseavingly fast! My fingers and toes were numb by this time.
Long story short, the manager was OK and returned everything. He still wanted a sale on another bike but I was mentally exhausted. I really considered keeping the 750 but I think I made the right decision (for me).
Why didn't ANY of the magazines mention the buzziness? I'm serious, riding that thing was like holding my 32cc weed wacker. I'm not exaggerating, it was as buzzing as that weed wacker (that eventually makes my hands go numb, too large of a property to take care of).
I apologized to my baby, over and over, and had a nice (much smoother) ride back home.
By the way, I'll never complain about the 929's minor buzzing anymore. |

Used to be out here in Cali, once you signed the line it was yours. We now have the 3 day cool off period like most other states. |

I asked him if there was a 24 hour, 48 hour return policy and he stated "once you sign, it's yours". And I argued how can anyone blindly fork over several thousands of dollars and find out the bike is not for you?
I was very nervous about being gone for an hour (30 minute drive back and 30 minute back to the dealer).
All I can say is, one big sigh of relief. I really think I would have been screwed owning it. Just my personal opinion, ymmv.
I might look at the 2006 1000RR yellow blue this week. I met the manager last week and he had no problem at all with allowing me to test ride it. |

If yamaha comes through with their motor in the '07's then in 08 ,it might just be time to buy.
I personally like the blue and yellow. Different then the normal honda black and red. |

I hate playing the negotiating game btw.
The original quote for the GSXR750 was MSRP.
Seriously, MSRP. I looked at him and said "you're kidding right?". They called me back 3 more times and finally began bringing the price down and down and down. |

| Re: Purchased a 2006 GSXR-750.......well...for an hour anyway. As for the Exhaust not, I find the bike very quiet. The Air box noise is very prominent when on the bike. I did hear it go down the strait at Grattan when Phobe tried it, but because there was a certain RC51 on the track (Namely #51) I could not even hear the 750 I am getting an Arrow Slip-on, That should give me the clearance I need for the Underbelly Bodywork and a little bit more sound as well. |

| Re: Purchased a 2006 GSXR-750.......well...for an hour anyway. It's going to be VERY difficult for me to turn over the 929, if that day ever comes. This bike has been great to me, it's smooth, easy to ride, and still somewhat fast for a larger bike, it's problematic free, and parts are getting cheaper. I've preached this so many times, but here it is again...."Bikes are like guns, you should never sell them, only add to the collection!" The funny part about all this, is that my wife was watching the Laguna race with me this weekend and said she REALLY liked the Respol paint scheme! I was quick to point out that if she wanted to see me on one like it, I can arrange it within a week Yes I would give up my 929 for a brand new 1000rr Respol, that's an acceptable rule braker in my book. |

| Re: Purchased a 2006 GSXR-750.......well...for an hour anyway. Did you try to find the source of the buzz? The buzzing might have just been something that wasn't tightened during the prep. for even considering to sell your '9!

As a matter of fact, even at idling I was already getting worried.
Like I said before, it's just me, no way would I own a bike that buzzed so bad that my hands, feet, ass went numb after 3 minutes, even if it was a rocket.
Believe me, I wanted this bike for so long, I was severely disappointed.
I hated the exhaust note, sounded like lawn mower exhaust.

| Re: Purchased a 2006 GSXR-750.......well...for an hour anyway. Seriously though I didn't find Purp's bike to be any buzzier than my 1000... but I also have my bar-end weights swapped for buzz-a-rific slider ends. |

| Re: Purchased a 2006 GSXR-750.......well...for an hour anyway. I did take the 929 for granted, and apologized many many times.
They did just pull it off the crate, chain slack seemed a little tight to me but I didn't know what the correct slack should be and it wasn't on the swingarm decal.
When I rode my 929 off the lot 5 years ago, the thing was butter. I mean I had a smile all the way home and couldn't wipe it off for a year.
That's what you're supposed to feel while driving off the dealer lot.
I was not about to start diagnosing the buzz problem on day #1.
Could another brand new Gixxer be different? I'm not even going to think about it.
I SOOOOO wanted that sexy beast in my garage! |

We do? I haven't bought a new car since 02 (the S2K is leased), but then they still had the big "No Cool Off Period" stuff. |

Unless it's very recent, there's no cool off period as far as I know. Bought my truck a year ago and there was no cool off period. |

It's funny, the manager seemed more than willing to allow me to test ride other bikes (after the sale fell through)to regain my money, but wouldn't allow it even with my bike's title handed over to him originally. |

I fail to see how it should be the dealer's loss when people get buyer's remorse. |

In the case of the bike, you get no test ride, I think you should be able to take it back like SD.
Cars...dealers are so adept at ****ing people...I can see it both ways. |

| Re: Purchased a 2006 GSXR-750.......well...for an hour anyway. I've heard the buzzing was particular to the yellow and black model, since most people who are attracted to that color scheme fancy themselves as hornets and make 'that sound' while they ride.
I'm with Red, though, I think something was wrong in the set-up. Wonder if they torque-checked the engine bolts? |
