speed sensor

I helped my buddy change out his chain & sprocket on his 01 gsxr600 and now his speedo doesnt work. His chain guard was filthy but it was dark and cold so I didnt clean it.Is it possible that the speed sensor is just gunked up or is it shot?I heard that the speed sensor is a common problem.... I hate working on suzukis i tried to save my buddy a couple of bucks now hes looking at me like wtf.

Re: speed sensor

I just changed the front sprocket on my '07 gix. Well, I started. I have the wrong sprocket. I also added a SpeedoHealer while I was at it. Hope it works when I put it all back together.

Anyway, I'm not much help, but check out gixxer.com. Seem to recall reading about problems with the speed sensor. There is some good gix info on that site.
