Howdy,

My bike only has 535 miles on it, however it is several years old, and out of warranty. Problem is, when I try to shift up, the tongue or top of my gym sneaker gets stuck between the foot peg and the shift lever and brings the shift lever back down, unexpectedly, and I then stay in the current gear that I am in, or the bike unexpectedly shifts down.

Yesterday, as I was shifting up, my real wheel seized and I hear the rear tire squeal. Luckily the road was dry, or I could have wiped out.

I am attibuting the problem to being that my foot is lodged too tightly between the shift lever and the foot peg and after I shift, as my foot goes down and relaxes, the top of the shoe catches the shift lever and brings it back down, unexpectedly.

What are your thoughts? Has anyone else have this kind of thing happen to them?

What did you do to correct the problem? My foot peg was bent up at one time when my bike fell, but I thought I had bent it back, correctly. Anyway, I can't seem to figure out how to get it off, even with the help of my service manual.

I'd like to rack up the miles on this baby, this summer, if I only I could feel safe to ride it, with the shift problem resolved.

Not trying to be smart but how about wearing proper riding boots instead of sneakers. I'm guilty of wearing deck shoes myself occassionaly but don't have any problem.

How is your shoe grabbing the shifter? Have a hole or something in them?

I have proper riding boots. I'll try wearing them to see if this helps.

My gym shoes seem to fit tight between the shifter and the peg. Perhaps I have my foot placed too far forward on the peg.....but I was able to do fine at the motorcycle riding course on their bikes, or so I thought.

Perhaps I have a bent fork, or something?

Not familiar with the Boulevard, but can you reposition the shifter? Also, make sure your peg is straight, and definitely wear proper footwear...
